Unlike many now commenting on the cowardly Kabul attack, I only KNOW one thing:
our very decent, honest and experienced POTUS will speak to us at 5:00 p.m. ET and I will trust him to do what is right.

He is the decision maker we overwhelmingly elected to do whatever was necessary and appropriate to deal with the mess Trump created in our nation and the world.

I stand with Joe.

How well did that go?

2. On a personal level, politics aside, Biden is probably utterly devastated at this loss

We know the big point of him getting the US out of there was to stop the loss of life of American troops, and we know how he feels about our soldiers.

I have to think he's feeling pretty crushed that this has happened.

33. It's complicated.

There's an old verse that I would like to quote accurately ... but Google is not being my friend today so I must use paren's to indicate paraphrase -

"You say you would die for your faith, and no doubt that is true,
But (can you say with equal fervor) that you live for it too?"

It goes on to describe what living for one's faith entails, making it clear that it is much more demanding in the long haul than dying. If anyone knows it, and knows where to find it, I'd be grateful for the information.

Dying requires one kind of courage. Living requires another, and other virtues as well. It's more strenuous. Is cowardice related to laziness?

6. I'm behind Biden/Harris 100%.

I can't imagine our country's reaction if the orange shithead were still in office.

23. One tiny point of disagreement

I can't stand Trump, he is by far the worst president ever to hold office. However, Bush & Cheney created the Afganistan mess. Never forget that.

24. So what do you think we're observing right now?

Is Pres Biden trying to hold back tears/emotions or is the prompter too far away?

38. He also is a man of faith.

Not the chest-thumping, "Look at me hold the Bible (upside down)! Real American Christians love me, despite cheating on my wife with a porn star, saying 'When you're famous they'll let you do anything...grab 'em by the *****,' and never ever being seen spending a single day at church."

Biden has a deep long-lasting faith that has been tested through the deaths of his first wife and two sons. When he was in Ireland to attend the G7 (I probably have those details wrong) he and Jill attended services at a small Catholic church in the village, and he didn't make a big deal about it. His faith is part of who he is.

I am sure Biden has surrounded himself with the best men and women who will give him their best advice, and stand up to him when they think he's wrong. I think he's the kind of president who would expect that from his advisers.

Biden is going to make mistakes -- we all do. One of the many big differences between him and TFG is that he is willing to make the hard choices and stand by them. "The buck stops with me." What a breath of fresh air.

By the time August 31 rolls around, close to 100,000 Americans, allies and Afghans will have been evacuated and well on their way to being relocated with the help of thousands of American volunteers. That is not a trivial accomplishment, for both Biden and the military personnel who have done the hard and dangerous work on the ground and in the air. The Repugs and RW will attack him, but I have zero fux to give. I stand with Joe.

47. Joe got this right.

We need a president who thinks clearly and won't get us dragged into another conflict with a middle eastern insurgency which is exactly what they want and why they attacked.

I'm getting so sick of hearing this crap about Biden being a devout Catholic.  If he was a devout Catholic, he wouldn't have named his sons Hunter and Bo.  Catholic boys have names like Michael or James or Patrick or Peter or Paul or Joseph--where I come from, anyway.  I even doubt that Joe's parents were devout Catholics since, even though he has a good Catholic first name, his middle name is Robinette.  I've never heard of any Saint Robinette.  Bernadette yes, Robinette no.  And what the hell kind of femmy name is that for a boy anyway?

Not sure how long DU will let you lug that nickname around, so it probably isn't a good idea to correct them in your first-ever post.  But at least you misspelled 'Afghanistan'.  Goes a lot toward fitting-in with them.

our very decent, honest and experienced POTUS will make NO MEAN TWEETS!

Oh how it chafed me going to my daily torment on Twitter. Every time Trump would say, "Shut up, you little weasel!" I felt like he was talking to me! (Falls dramatically on his fainting couch. Clutches at his pearls)

China should take Taiwan and Russia should march and take over Ukraine. With Biden in office and the Dems as the Congressional majority, they won’t have a better chance.

I can DUmbass. If President Trump was still in office none of this shit going on in Afghanistan would be happening. But, since you mouth breathing, oxygen thieving wastes of skin put Gropey Joe into office, that country went to shit, resulting in what we're seeing today.

Most likely Afghanistan would not be the mess it is today and the taliban would not be in possession of billions of dollars of our advanced weapons systems.

But you mutts would still be crying out "Orange Man Bad" and getting all butthurt over "mean" tweets.  I guess your precious feelings matter more than the lives of our Troops.
