I talked my wife into not attending the Minnesota State Fair

She loves the State Fair, and had planned to go next week with a couple of friends. Since the Fair Board refuses to mandate masks or to require evidence of full vaccination, I suggested she not go this year. She finally agreed that it wasn't a good idea, despite being fully vaccinated. I didn't insist, but I continued to suggest that it was a bad idea. The local news, too, has been covering this extensively, and there are many complaints about the Fair Board's negligence and lack of serious concern.

If ever there was an event that was more dangerous during a pandemic than one where a couple hundred thousand people will be standing and walking cheek to jowl, I don't know of it. Even though we have a relatively high vaccination rate here in the Twin Cities, the Fair attracts people from all over the state, including people from conservative, rural counties that have terribly low vaccination rates.

Personally, I think it was irresponsible for the Fair Board to be that cavalier about masks. They know the risks, but decided that it would be too hard to enforce such a rule. They're probably right about that, but the correct solution would be to put the Fair off for another year.

Mass exposure to those who are infected will affect even the vaccinated, I believe. I'm glad she decided to skip the event. I'll make her some corn dogs and deep-fried cheese curds.

You don't want your wife going to the fair because of covid but instead will make her corn dogs and deep fried cheese curds that are fatting. GOT IT!

bc people cannot decide for themselves. Typical fascist lefty.

Tangentially, I went to the Dallas State Fair 10 years ago when I first moved here and have never been so bored in my life.  Fried food that was previously fried or never meant to be fried does not really call to me.  The attractions were hackneyed to say the very least.

If she is vaccinated and will undoubtedly wear 2 masks, what are you and she afraid of?

DBAP, Rockhead.  If you don't know what that acronym means, look it up.

The State Fair just concluded here with over a million visitors (Ralphie not among them), and no local panic porn about a "superspreader" event.

My question to Minnesota Moses is this: if the fair were cancelled this year, what guarantee is there it will be held next year?

MM doesn't care about all the revenue the fair brings to a state and the people it employs, I mean, after all, he got his!

He could buy and sell the whole fair and still buy a dozen cars, all thanks to the hard work of his folks.  On top of that he let the taxpayers of the US pay to bury his dad, at the very least.  I still don't know about his mom.

At least those who did go to the fair didn’t have to put up with Rockhead and his equally stupid wife, so some good did come from this.

DBAP, Rockhead.  If you don't know what that acronym means, look it up.

Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP, pronounced "d-bap") is a 10,000-seat ballpark in Durham, North Carolina

What I was gently referring to is when Clay Travis was hosting his sports show before taking over the Rush time slot along with Buck Sexton, he would frequently close the show by saying DBAP unless you've stopped being an SBAP.

DPAB: Don't be a (woman's midsection)

Unless:

SPAB: Stopped being a (woman's midsection)

But knew you'd look up the potential acronyms. :cheersmate:

I wonder whether Mrs. MineralMan will 'just happen' to have another appointment at the same time as the state fair and so be away from the house for about the same time as she would usually take to go to the fair. Not suggesting for a moment that she'd mumble 'yes dear' just to stop the inane ranting, and then do exactly as she had planned already...

Meanwhile, I'm eagerly anticipating going to Universal Studios in seven days for the opening night of Halloween Horror Nights, and will visit it several more times over the rest of the event (I have a Frequent Fear Pass).
Suck it, DUmmies!
