Cook or Bake?

They say one usually prefers one over the other.

I admit I am a better cook than baker...but I do like to bake things like chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and cake out of the box, cupcakes.  I do make a great sourcream cheesecake.

But mostly, I'm a cook...and I cook italian and mexican well.

I really like both.

Cooking makes me happy. Creating something....and having it turn out! .... is a "high". Feeding family and friends is contentment.

Cook....I don't like baking..ya have to measure to careful...when i cook..it's a pinch of this..handful of that...

I enjoy both cooking and baking, but out of necessity, I do more cooking than baking.

I remember when I was a night baker in the Army. We made some killer yeast cinnamon rolls. Damn things looked like truck tires.  :rotf:

I like to bake, especially around Christmas. I hardly ever cook any more, the boys do it.  :-)

Cook.  Nothing quite like going out on the back porch and pulling the herbs I need off the plant rather than pull them out of a box or jar.

And it allows me to "play" a little bit, experiment with ingredients, etc.

It's amazing how much better food prepared with fresh herbs taste vs. those made with the prepackaged stuff.

We even make our own chilli powder.  It's much better than any store bought stuff I've ever had.

I'm more of a baker.

Cookies, cakes, cupcakes, breads, etc.

It's what I am more comfortable with doing.  My mom never taught me how to cook, so my confidence in the kitchen is pretty low.  At least hubby knows how to cook and does help me out when I want to make something.

Same here.  I never learned to bake, and don't even own a mixer, so cooking for me it is.

I'm more of a baker, but I try not to do it too much. Oh, who am I kidding. Just because I try, doesn't mean I succeed. I have a very naughty sweet tooth that insists on chocolate from time to time.

I don't really enjoy cooking or baking, but I'm trying to like it more.  I received a kitchaid artisan mixer for Christmas a couple of years ago. That thing has gotten a workout and I really love it.  I also bought a bread machine a few months ago and have put it to good use.  My favorite thing to do is make pizza dough.

I prefer to cook as it gives you a bit more freedom.  Baking, especially when yeast is involved, needs to be more exact in the measurements and how you handle the product.  We cook using whatever we have raised and have available so at times need to be flexible in the ingredients.  That being said, there is nothing like some nice warm home made bread or rolls.
