Offshore Oil Drilling Ban Lifted
« on: October 12, 2010, 12:35:40 PM »
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Tuesday lifted the moratorium on deepwater exploratory oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico — provided companies follow new safety rules.

"Operators who play by the rules and clear the higher bar can be allowed to resume", Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said at a news conference.

"The oil and gas industry will be operating under tighter rules, stronger oversight, and in a regulatory environment that will remain dynamic as we continue to build on the reforms we have already implemented," he added.

Rolling Stone writer, activist, fop and world-renowned bitch, Matt Taibbi, was unavailable for comment, refusing to come out from the bathroom he had locked himself in upon hearing the news earlier this morning.

May as well keep the moratorium while we are at it.

I bet this is just a political game. After the election, the baby dictator will order the moratorium back on. Just my opinion.

They won't have to do that. They'll just make it so that no companies meet their higher standards of safety. (It's hard to meet the bar when it keeps being raised.)

Little late to lift the ban now that all the available rigs have been shipped to Brazil and elsewhere.

All part of the plan in the first place.

the moratorium may have been lifted, but the feds still aren't allowing permitting in deep or shallow water.  this is another example of the "if you like your health care coverage, you can keep it" brand of dishonesty.
