U.S. probes BP connection to bomber release

Pressure is growing on the British government and oil company BP to fully explain their roles in the decision to release the Lockerbie bomber.

A controversy over whether Abdel Baset al-Megrahi's release last year was connected to oil-trade deals is threatening to overshadow British Prime Minister David Cameron's first visit to Washington next week.

U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to raise the issue and yesterday Hillary Clinton, the U.S. Secretary of State, telephoned William Hague, the British Foreign Secretary, and discussed the matter.

"The Secretary indicated that ... it might be appropriate for the British government to communicate with Congress as well to make sure that they fully understand ... what transpired a year ago," said State Department spokesman Philip Crowley.

"This is a very important issue to the American people, and it is going to be something we will be addressing for a period of time."

Fox News just had a Dem congresscritter on talking about this. The host ask what they hoped to do if BP did have anything to do with getting Abdel Baset al-Megrahi released.  No answer, from him except that we had the right to know if BP was involved.

There has got to be some underlying reason for trying to determine if BP was involved, or are they just trying to hurt BP more in preparation for a takeover of BP's American assets?

It could be this turned up while the Obamanistas were kicking up rocks while brewing up  plans to make a grab for BP's assets. Methinks it'll be interesting to watch this one to see how BP jumps. This could save them.
