Well, hope is hopeful. And the future isn't the past.  So if you don't have hope for the future you just have the hopeless past.  And that isn't hopeful. Or in the future.  And if you don't change the future you'll never be able to change the past. So if you hope to change the past you need to hope for the future.

So change your past so you can futurely hope.
