Our direct deposit paycheck shows a few dollars more. We won't see the actual stub until Monday (if the HR person is in..)

When is this life saving gift from the federal government supposed to kick in? What will I see? $10, maybe $20 a week? $100 a month tops?

You know, all I really want to do is refinance my mortgage at a decent rate. That would reduce my interest payout and lower my monthly payment by close to $500. The interest savings over the life of the mortgage would be about $20k. That's realized savings, most of which will probably go right back into the economy. A whole lot more effective than this measly stimulus smoke and mirrors bullshit.

Not discount the jobs programs, but the mortgage aspect needs to be seriously considered. There must be hundreds of thousands if not millions of people across the country in my position. $5000 a year from one million people is potentially $5,000,000,000 ($5bln) for the economy.

which means that whatever the banks (and credit cards) charge is pure profit.

We read that the banks would not allow people to refinance when they owe more than what the house is worth. What does the bank want: for the owners to walk away and then the banks will have to seel the house and will not get much, anyway, plus commissions for the sellers?

And they don't want Congress to pass the law that allows judges to lower the amount owed. This is when regulations come: when businesses will not do the right things, someone else will force them to.

I wonder whether you can try to talk to your lender and see if something can be worked out.

I sometimes wonder: if our house were now worth half of what we paid... would I be tempted to just walk away?

Walk out of your house.. That just makes it easier to repossess, repair and retail. In the meantime there are people employed to track you down and see to getting the rest of what you owe.

Generally you can talk to your lender and work something out. That something might will no doubt involve you handing over money, so it's perhaps not the most suitable path to follow.

My pony finally came, it was an old mule. He was lame in one leg and clubfooted on the otherside. The vet charged me $600 to put him down and dispose of the carcass.

Thanks to my current job, I'm one of the ones that gets to pay for the DUmmies free ponies.

I guess I can thank all the idiots that voted for zero.  Rome tried this and didn't get away with it.  Athens let the sailors vote, the sailors voted to take money for themselves, that didn't work.  The pharoh's tried something like communism, the egyptians damn near starved to death.  The Pilgrims tried it, it didn't work.

Primitive, if you haven't been able to refianance your mortgage to a "decent rate" in the past few years it's because you didn't have "decent credit."  Pay your bills on time, you leech.

On a 30 year fixed at $150K at 6% that's $900 a month.  For a $500/mo savings, this primitive would have to currently have the same terms with a rate of 10.75% owing $1400/mo.

From what I hear, at the end of the year you will still have to pay the same amount on your income. You might be getting a few dollars more now, but at the end of the year, you are still going to owe the same tax on your income. It's all a dog and pony show, and we aint gettin the pony, we're going to get the doggie doo doo!

Question: How much does it Cost to Buy a Pony?

Ponies might be smaller in stature than horses, but that doesn't mean their purchase or upkeep costs are proportionally smaller.

Answer: The cost of a good pony can be the same or higher than a horse. Expect prices for suitable first ponies to be about $1000 and upwards.
