Obesity has been blamed for the growing problem of “boy-boobs” – cases of teenage boys with breasts so well developed that surgery is needed to reduce them.

Doctors at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool say that they are seeing dozens of teenagers every year with gynaecomastia, the condition in which males develop breasts.

Christian Duncan, a plastic surgeon specialising in obesity-related surgery, said that in the past 12 months he had performed at least 20 breast-reduction operations on young boys who had developed the condition.

Mr Duncan is treating others who do not yet qualify for surgery by encouraging them to make changes to their lifestyle, such as starting a healthy diet or beginning an exercise programme.

its not just obesity....

in fact techincally, 'gyno' is a  SERIOUS condition where mens testesterone levels are DANGEROUSLY OFF balance...

usually, they are extremely LOW & other hormones like estrogen & DHT takeover...

this usually leads to cancer, & the road is bumpy getting there too ( ED, depression, obesity, lethargy, heart disease, diabetes) etc.etc.

in the modern world, the #1 cause for this condition is either snythetic steroid abuse &/or, estrogen chemicals found in PLASTICS, cosmetics, metal cans & a few other seemingly harmless places ....

I saw a study done around 10 years ago by a testosterone clinic. And way back then they knew that MALE BOTTLED WATER ABUSERS would start to develop this problem &/or testicular/prostate problems...

needless to say, I haven't drank much of anything out of  plastic ever since & actually my prostatitis that I started to develop 15 years ago, has pretty well been kept in check...

I once knew a bodybuilder back in dallas that had 'gyno' so bad, he could milk his manboobs :o ....

I guess giving my son only organic animal products was a good desicion! The article site obesity as the culprit but I firmly believe that the hormones, pesticides, etc..in our food chain have a lot to do with some of the problems we're seeing in children.

I saw a show on Discovery Health a few years ago about this condition.  There was a boy, probably around 15ish that was a big swimmer, he was thin and not overweight at all and had breasts developing.  He had the surgery to get them removed.  He said that before the surgery he was always embarrassed to take off his shirt around people and was very self-conscience about it.  Afterwards he felt much better mentally and they showed him swimming in a local pool, sans shirt.

I second this. My sister had me read The Makers Diet a while back. The author discusses the problems associated with the hormone-laced products we feed today's children. It's frightening to think about it. Since reading it, I've been on a quest to eat more "cleanly." Buy organic when feasible. Less processed food. I shudder to think what damage has already been done to my insides already with all the chemicals and junk foods I've consumed over the years.

i was going to say the same thing.. but i agree with JCC to an extent. chemicals in plastics are probably not good to ingest. my sister in law is very all natural and she rarely sends emails about stuff. but she sent out one about using plastic bowls to warm up food in the microwave and how the heat can help chemicals seep into the food.

i dunno... it sounds plausible, but it would take years to get enough in your system to kill ya i'd think.

still, eating raw and healthy is looking more and more the only way to go. and doctors dont give us any heads up on the actual dangers, they just keep spouting, 'eat healthy and excersize' ... i guess they are covered  :whatever:

i also wanted to add that little girls are developing younger and younger every year... my 8 year old already *needs* deoderant. but she is very, very active and is a slim build. she does have some active hormones that give her that earthy little kid smell...


8 may be normal for lots of kids to start using deoderant, but it seems early to me.. ive never asked her pediatrician, cause we rarely see her except for shots ..

I've seen girls in the first grade start mensturating. It's shocking to see how fast some of them are developing.

I'm sure the plastics and other chemicals meant to make life easier are doing just the opposite. I shudder to think about what I've ingested too!
