University Lays Off 79 IT Workers After They Train Foreign Replacements

We’ve seen this same situation play out in other places. An institution or company makes employees train the very people who are going to take their jobs. It’s so demeaning to American workers.

ARS Technica reported:

Public university lays off 79 IT workers after they train outsourced replacements

At the University of California’s San Francisco campus, 79 IT employees lost their jobs this week, some of them after explaining to their replacements at Indian outsourcing firm HCL how to do their jobs.

Immigration attorneys from Cohen & Grigsby explains how they assist employers in running classified ads with the goal of NOT finding any qualified applicants, and the steps they go through to disqualify even the most qualified Americans in order to secure green cards for H-1b workers. See what Bush and Congress really mean by a "shortage of skilled U.S. workers." Microsoft, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, and thousands of other companies are running fake ads in Sunday newspapers across the country each week.

I'm less trusting of UCSF adminicrats. I would be utterly unsurprised to learn that these Indian workers will have access to or even work with patient information. US laws and regs are very stringent and exacting wrt patient health information (PHI). As for Indian laws? Who knows? And would the Indian government give a @#$% if the PHI of US citizens got leaked? Don't hold your breath on that!

UCSF will likely find communications and logistics trying, and maybe that personnel retention is not a strong point in India.

UCSF is primarily or exclusively in the medical field. It is no exaggeration to say that they have some of the top doctors in their specialties in the world practicing and teaching there. It is also no exaggeration for me to say that their care may have saved the life of one of my children from a rare disease (there were some 5000 known cases of it worldwide at the time).
