Oh my.

A letter--actually, an e-mail--to the president.  From a primitive.

Dear Mr. President,

If we Americans are shoved aside and denied at least a public health insurance option, as you have promised us, then rest assured you will be bringing down the Democratic Party and I, along with millions of others, fully intend to not vote for you ever again.

We are hurting out here and continuing to side with the medical-industrial complex, at this critical juncture of our history, would be a catastrophe.

Your choice is clear.

Either follow your conscience, help us, and become a "President for the Ages" or follow the PAC money and lobbyists and become just another lap dog for the system.

Sincerely,
<my name here>

The deal is, I suspect Pa Kettle is in fact "following" his "conscience."

Primitives don't understand something.

When one writes a letter to someone, using black ink on white paper, and spending some money for postage to send it, it has an impact.

e-mails and facsimiles have no such impact.

One hears the primitives protesting, "Oh, but sending an e-mail or a FAX is easier."

Which of course it is, but because it requires little or no effort on the part of the sender, it has little or usually no impact upon the receiver.

Concrete results demand concrete sweat and toil and expense.

At least here in NY if you are on medicaid and own property any medical care you receive from the county coffers is attached as a lien on the deed to be collected when the person passes and their estate is settled.

No doubt that would be hidden in any "public" option as well.

Well, at least it stands a chance of getting used as toilet paper......slim one, I know, but a chance no less.

I heard, once upon a time, that one letter received in a politician's office equalled 1,000 votes.  I tend to think it's higher now, with the advent of faxes and email.

They are at least good for providing a lot of it, for those of us with a bit of a cruel streak!
