Will Ron Paul kill the Iowa caucus?

Will Ron Paul kill the caucuses?

Conservatives and Republican elites in the state are divided over who to support for the GOP nomination, but they almost uniformly express concern over the prospect that Ron Paul and his army of activist supporters may capture the state’s 2012 nominating contest — an outcome many fear would do irreparable harm to the future role of the first-in-the-nation caucuses.

While there’s no evidence of an organized effort, public polling shows that Paul’s lead is built in large part with the support of non-Republicans – and few party veterans think such voters would stick with the GOP in November.

“They’ll all go back and vote for Obama,” predicted Beach.

With his left-of-Obama foreign policy views, libertarian outlook on social issues and paper trail of controversial statements, a Paul victory could represent a potentially devastating blow to the tradition of Republicans starting their White House campaigns in Iowa.

I had put something similar to this on Facebook:

If Iowa goes for Ron Paul then Iowa has jumped the shark and is irrelevant as a primary state.

Their fears are not unfounded.  Anyone here wanna bet that the majority of Ronulans either 1--stayed home, 2--voted for Obama, rather than vote for McCain?

Perhaps this is all "upside" and really no downside.  A Paul victory may force the State of Iowa to finally move into the 21st century, with the primary system.  Iowa became irrelevant in this area a while back......in recent history only ONE candidate that has won the Iowa caucus has gone on to win the presidency.

The idea that a win here gives a candidate "momentum", under their system is simply ludicrous.  When every registered voter has his/her say in a primary, that, and that only, grants relevancy to a candidate.  Iowa's "straw poll" is ridiculous as well.......simply something for the press to hover over and babble about.

Instead of allowing themselves to look like idiots in front of the world media every four years, they just might figure it out........maybe......
