I've wondered since this morning what to write today. I was at a loss for words. Then I decided to just put down whatever was on my mind. This is the result without any proof reading or grammar checks...
I've always loved this country. Although I've never served, I've always had the deepest respect and admiration for those past and present who have served.
My love, admiration, and respect is so strong that I get a chill and fill with pride when I see our brave men and women marching in formation carrying our flag or hear one of our aircraft scream by overhead. My love, admiration, and
respect is so strong that I get misty-eyed when I watch the flag being raised as the Star Spangled Banner plays or as our flag is folded as Taps is played or even if our aircraft does a fly over in the missing man formation.
Some would say that the above makes me a wimp or a flag waving rethug. If so, it doesn't really bother me. If the above makes me those things I will just wear those labels with pride.
The strength of my feelings, however, have at times stirred me to anger. One of those times occurred after President Bush was elected and some of the citizens of our great country started an online "I'm sorry" campaign wherein they apologized to the world that President Bush had won the election.
With that in mind, you would think that the results of this election would have stirred me to anger, but it has not. I'm not really angry that President-elect Obama won the election. I am actually proud that a man of color won this election. It shows that anyone in this country can achieve his or her goals. It would be more accurate to say that I am disappointed that this particular man won the election as his beliefs and mine are so drastically different. I am even more disappointed in the people that elected him and in myself.
Maybe I, as an individual, didn't do enough to get the message out. Maybe none of us did. For this I AM SORRY.
I AM SORRY to our brave men and women in uniform who may suffer as a result.
To the citizens of the world who look to the US as the shining city on a hill glowing as a beacon of democracy and free enterprise I AM SORRY for letting socialism slip in.
To the Main Stream Media I AM SORRY that you forgot your duty to present the truth objectively.
To our founding fathers who established this country I AM SORRY that we took our eyes from your dreams.
The list could go on, but regardless America still lives. We have to be strong for her and for those who have gone before. Come January our voices within the government will be few, but the few have prevailed before.
In World War II, during the Battle of Britian, the monsterous Nazi war machine assaulted the tiny British nation. The brave aviators of the RAF defended their land with vigor. Their action caused Winston Churchill to speak the phrase: Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.
For the next two years our "few" in congress have their work cut out for them. We should send them our thoughts and opinions. We should also send them and our great land our prayers. And we should prepare relentlessly for the mid-term elections.
As long as we live America's heart still beats. A beating heart provides a glimmer of hope. Let's nurture that hope. Let's build on that hope. Let's make sure that our side never has to say "I AM SORRY that I had to watch America pass".
God bless you guys and most importantly God bless America.
