Son's OA banquet is tomorrow night....he made Vigil in the OA last fall. This isn't funny to me either. I have always thought of the Boy Scouts as an straight up, loyal American bunch but I see them as caving to the dark side now.

The BSA use religion as their value system right?  Are there any religions that are for homosexuality?  If they allow this does it mean they are going to throw out the religion part?

A friend who is also a member here wanted me to post this for him; he's tied up for a while.

Well folks - it is a firestorm.  Been in scouting off and on since 1951, mostly on; as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Explorer - then adult CubMaster, ScoutMaster and then commissioners.  Until 2 months ago I was the District Commissioner here, but after 3+ years [7 months without a District Executive and running this district], I withdrew my name for another 1 year term.  It was time to do something else, so I took on different jobs, i.e. Advancement Chairman, Eagle Scout Project and Board Chairman - while staying on as a Assistant District Commissioner to help the new Commissioner during his first year of transition.
Anyway - by about Wednesday next week National supposedly will make a ruling, but if their preliminary is followed, it will mostly be dumped on the units and districts -- handed down, so guess who gets dumped on.  I have talked with conference leaders of my denomination at Church and they aren't changing [are against], other clergy I've talked to say they are waiting to see what National does.  The other part of Nationals plan says that if parents don't like what happens in a unit, they are free to find another unit to their liking.  { Funny- that has always been the case for many reasons}.
One rule for unit re-charter - they must have 5 boys and 4 adults [committee member, treasurer, Scoutmaster, Committee Chair, to be a viable unit.  If those numbers drop below minimum units cannot re-charter and are dropped - so I see a lot of dropped units with remaining units increasing in size.



Now comes a possible hatchet, but what are they going to do  - fire me?

I don't see how Atheism (with a capital A) is any different from any other religion. They have faith that god or gods do not exist.
