I am rarely flabbergasted...

So I am without a phone, TV or Internet except for my iphone, because my Verizon Fios transformer blew after the power outage last week. However, there is a 12v jack on the side of the box for auxiliary power. I had jury rigged a 12v transformer with an almost appropriate jack and plugged it in, but it was a little too small and wasn't making good contact with the conductors.

So at 7:45 I went out to Radio Shack to purchase a variable transformer which has assorted jacks which you can buy to fit into the universal cord. The guy asked me what size I needed and told him,. this one. He asked if I were sure. I said, not certain but I will tell you what: I will buy one of each of the very small.

He said he wouldn't sell me two adapters. I asked him why not, that 500 of his stores were going to be closing soon and couldn't they use every sale they could get? He said that in good conscience, if everyone bought two, then there would not be enough left to supply all of the ttransformers. I then said, OK, I will buy the one I think it is, take it home and measure it without taking it out of the package. If it works great, if not, I can exchange it, right?

He said that again he would not sell this to me because I was not certain which I needed. I reiterated that I would be happy to either buy both or exchange it within 15 minutes, no harm done. He REFUSED to sell me the product under any circumstances. HE was the only guy in the store, so there was no appeal play.

Now I have no TeeVee until Monday, no real Internet, and no phone. In another life, before I was on Beta Blockers I think I would have gone berserk in the store. At this point, I just accepted the fact that I am a complete loser and left empty-handed. I know: I could have bought a digital antenna but I didn't care at that point,. I only wanted to get out before I did something really stupid.

1. Thanks, Obama!

You should have Told him you're going to dial up HQ and tell them their employee is refusing to sell their product to you.

Guy sounds like a clown. They do have some noncompany-owned franchise stores. I wonder if this was one.

2. Did you type that whole thing on an iPhone?

They oughtta have an Olympics competition for that. Congratulations ... you didn't even get weird autofill spellings or anything.

Your experience sounds like something out of a sitcom or something. Sorry for your problems, but I got a good laugh. Perhaps you should have just tried buying one, then leave the store for five minutes and come back in to buy another. If he said you couldn't buy a second, you could have said, "I've never been here in my life. I didn't buy anything."

I don't know if you can see this on your iPhone, but it's the Radio Shack commercial from the SuperBowl. "The 80s called; they want their store back."

3. Not too long ago I bought some kind of widget from Radio Shack.

The clerk strongly suggested that I buy two of the same item in case one was defective.

5. What the f...?

What a bizarre thing for him to say.

I bought a couple of different jack converters last summer. I wasn't sure which one would work and the associate actually suggested I get two different ones and try them to see which one would work. Turns out neither of them worked and returned them both.

6. Wow, around here they would've been tickled pink just to see a customer in the store...

and would've asked what color gift wrap I wanted for my purchase!

Seriously, you should call next week and speak to the manager of the store. That was some bush league customer service.

Now, to get back to the original post.

Did Philadelphia have a power outage last week?

Why wasn't it in the news?

Or is this one of those things so commonplace in blue places run by corrupt Democrat party machines that it's not even newsworthy?

I suspect this whole bouncy is a fabrication.

A power outage or grass fire anywhere in the continental US would have been reported by gNads on DU and the Orange County Shopper.
This too shall pass.

So a store that stays in business by selling things refused to sell things to someone wanting to buy things?

I had PSE&G power when I lived in South NJ.  Really never had protracted power outages, but it was some of the worst quality power I've ever had to buy.  If you had a desktop computer there, you DEFINITELY needed to have a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply, aka batter back-up) between its power supply and the wall socket.  After one of their weekly random power sags or one-second gaps destroyed a hard drive and a lot of problems with bad sectors on others, I got a UPS for every box in the house and never lost another drive or had to replace another internal power supply box.

Many years ago the power at my house varied a lot. I had a color TV that would black out when the voltage got down to around 100 volts. That was my 'volt meter'.

About 700,000 people lost power in southeastern PA last week during the height of the storm.  I don't think Philadelphia was affected directly, but many of the suburbs experienced power outages lasting a day or two.  The Paoli/Thorndale line was shut down until Friday due to the electrical problems and fallen trees.

Does PCIntern claim to live in Philadelphia or the suburbs?

Nobody calls that brick that plugs into their modem a "transformer".  It's a voltage adapter... it converts the 110v AC coming out of the outlet to direct current, probably between 3-5 volts.  Which begs the question, why didn't he contact Verizon and request a new one?  The "transformer" is the thing on the pole outside your house, or maybe in PC Intern's case, in his toy collection.

What a buffoon.

We all know this is a lie. The question for me is what was the point of the lie? How did the republicans cause this poor little crazy person such pain? Were the Koch brothers somehow involved? There is always a trail back to a democrat talking point on bouncys like this I just don't get the angle.

Not an rsmithnumbers-caliber bouncy.

He did a good job with the absurd situation and the awkward, unbelievable dialogue, but he failed to close the deal by quoting his own brilliant comments, putting the miscreant in his place.

I'm puzzled by why he neglected to worm a political angle into his tale.

Technically the adapter is a transformer.  I have several power strips with spots marked for transformers.

The DUmmy looked out his window and saw David Koch standing on Charles Koch's shoulders, shooting at the transformer outside the DUmmy's house - with an AK-47!

And then they depantsed him and painted his weekie with a magic marker- but the DUmmy isn't complaining about that part.

Yes they did have a major power outage up in PA, Frank. Wasn't in Philly... was widespread.  Due to the last storm that went thru sometime last week. Last I heard it was something like 500,000 still without power.

Technically the adapter is a transformer.  I have several power strips with spots marked for transformers.

Unless it's for one of the tiny number of devices that take AC, it's a combined transformer combined with a rectifier, so calling it a transformer is not strictly correct.  But then you already knew that, with your background.  The DUmmie says so many other grossly stupid things, it's really fly-swatting with a hammer to go after that particular misstatement by him, which I expect was what you were saying beyond the technicalities.
