warmongering pretzel primitive bids primitives good-bye

Hello All. This is my goodbye. I don't believe I've ever done this before although I've read others say their goodbyes. At those times, it was usually a result of the internal squabbles that accompanied primaries when people lashed out at each other's candidates and someone couldn't stand the viciousness.

Well, as I've said before I was glad I found this site in 2003 when there were hardly any voices out there allowing us to feel we weren't a crazy minority in the wilderness. It was before Air America, Colbert Report, and so many other important additions to the progressive universe. It was a lifeline.

But so many years later after we've won what we all thought we were fighting for, there is a tragic kind of direction I've seen in this site. I gave to this site repeatedly through donations and group discussions/activities. I worked offline because of some of the things we discussed online. Yet all I hear is so much in the way of attacks on Obama. I guess because there are so many ways to find straight up news coverage of what's happening with Obama administration, this site sees itself as eternal police force and focuses on attacks.

I can't take it anymore. There are many long time voices of DU I just don't see here anymore which is sad. They were true progressives but also know that just because you backed a winner you don't get the club out and start beating the winner.

I'm accused of mental illness for not putting up with this. FOr not putting up with any unfair treatment. Okay. No problem. I admit to purposefully trying to get my message heard through provocative post titles. BUt I can see when it's over. This is not productive for me and I'm sad the direction this place has gone. Maybe it should just be called Opposition Underground. It seems no matter who is in office, the focus of the group here is to attack mercilessly whoever is currently in powr.

Good luck with that. Thanks to the many loyal posters who are still here. I've appreciated some of your work of late in amongst the garbage. Thanks you skinner and other admins..

It seems he got all upset by the primitives who, on rare occasion, decided to not walk in complete lock-step.

No doubt this primitive sleeps with a lifesize Dear Leader doll and believes it should be forced at gunpoint for others to do the same.  Typical liberal.

Because third world peasant labor is a good thing.

Oh my.

That's a pretty eloquent swan-song.

For a primitive.

In 2009 you are still a crazy minority in the wilderness and your party has all 3 houses.  :-)
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

But now he knows how deep into the wilderness he is......and he don't like it.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Pretzel Warrior? Pretzel?
We can only presume it referes to his preferred rationalist constructs.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

I've always wondered how many of those who post their opus actually leave?  Why bother when one gets such an ego stroke from those begging them to 'keep up the good fight'?  Sissies.

37. And naturally several people have to be snarky about it.
Sorry to see you go. I find myself drifting away from here more and more these days. I'm pretty damn cynical but I try to give off *some* positive vibes. Some folks here could find their wallet magically refilled with 10 dollar bills every day and complain that it's not 20 dollar bills.

I am reminded of something a gay friend had told me back when Bill Clinton was elected President. He had been heavily campaigning for Clinton on behalf of gay rights groups. The day after Clinton's win, I said to him that he must be quite happy that Clinton won. His response was, "Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that we got him elected. But now that he in, he becomes the enemy. We need to hold his feet to the fire to be sure that he keeps his promises."

I always respected that very practical and realistic view my friend held. Turns out, he was absolutely right in feeling that way. With very few exceptions, politicians are all bullshitting panderers, and none are above critique.
