Suspects wielding hammers and batons attack diners at Tinley Park restaurant

It was the middle of the lunch rush Saturday, and Mike Winston was working in the kitchen of his Tinley Park restaurant, the Ashford House, when a waitress screamed a fight had broken out in the dining room.
 
Police call the melee at the restaurant a targeted assault by a mob that Winston said wielded metal batons and hammers. Ten diners were hurt in the attack, and three of those were hospitalized.
 
Tinley Park police had five suspected assailants in custody, and Winston said 18 young men, all wearing hooded jackets and obscuring their faces with scarves and other coverings, stormed into the restaurant.
 
“They came running in the door single file,” said Winston, who owns Ashford House, 7959 W. 159th St., and the adjacent Winston’s Market.
 
Winston, and police, said the men knew who their targets were, and that the attack wasn’t a random act of violence. Winston said the mob “targeted” a group of 20 diners, all of whom were from out of state.


Supposedly, they were "white supremacists," but this sounds like someone inside the restaurant helped the attackers.  Keep your powder dry, people--Black Bloc thugs may be coming to you soon.

Thuggery like this should not be prosecuted under normal assault laws, but as acts of terrorism.

ETA:  In fact anyone arrested of vandalism during protests should be charged with terrorism.  They are using violence to affect behavior or policies of people they disagree with.

Hopefully the five they caught will be cooling their heels for a long time waiting for the trials of the felony assault charges...and then doing a few years each for each count after that.  I don't care what kind of assholes - or innocents - the diners might have been, this kind of conduct has to be crushed.

Guys, I respectfully disagree with your assertions that legal "prosecution" and jail sentences will have any type of deterring effect.  The liberals have seen to it, after decades of judicial activism, that the criminals have more rights than the victims.  If anything exists to "crush" this type of behavior, it is very simply going to have to fall to good men doing something rather than waiting for law enforcement to do anything.

As much as I hate to say this, it's going to have to come down to the citizenry pushing back against these barbarians.  When these thugs start having to drag their bleeding comrades out of a situation where they were met with overwhelming force, they'll think twice about doing it again.
