President Obama fired back at his Republican challengers who have accused him of being soft on Iran, saying at a White House press conference that the standoff over the Iranian nuclear program is "not a game."

Suggesting that the criticism being lobbed at him is not anchored in substance, Obama accused his rivals -- without mentioning their names -- of being "casual" about starting a war.

"If some of these folks think it’s time to launch a war, they should say so," he said. "Everything else is just talk."

Here's more of his answer:

At this stage, it is my belief that we have a window of opportunity where this can still be resolved diplomatically … Now, what’s said on the campaign trail – those folks don’t have a lot of responsibilities. They’re not commander-in-chief. And when I see the casualness with which some of these folks talk about war, I’m reminded of the costs involved in war. I’m reminded that the decision that I have to make, in terms of sending our young men and women into battle, and the impact that has on their lives, the impact that has on our national security, the impact it has on our economy – this is not a game. There’s nothing casual about it. And when I see some of these folks who have a lot of bluster and a lot of big talk, but when you ask them specifically what they would do, it turns out they repeat the things that we’ve been doing over the last three years. It indicates to me that’s more about politics than actually trying to solve a difficult problem.

Just turn it back on them and make them clarify how they would do it differently and then point out their inaccuracies.

How about:

support for actual, verifiable pro-democracy movements in Iran rather than the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and Al Qaeda in Libya.

Giving at least verbal support rather than staying silent alone would have done wonders.

I don't know, I think all the Republicans have to do is remind people about the price of gas and ask them if they're better off than they were 3 years ago...we don't even have to mention Iran. Of course, there's always the 1000's and 1000's of Iranian children dying because of 0bama's cruel sanctions.

...Because after all, sanctions and international disapproval without the use of armed force have such a wonderful track record of success.  They almost got the Japanese out of Manchuria, they put Saddam in his place, and they kept the Serbs from being mean to the Kosovars.  At least that must be what it says in the moonbat-approved history books...

...but it does wonders for the black market economy. Maybe Obama should ask the world to put sanctions on us....nothing else he's done has worked.

Yes diplomacy works so well. I especially loved that time when the Japanese came to their senses back in December of 1941 and made peace with the world..................Oh yeah that's right ,they couldn't even get the time right before they attacked half of the US Pacific forces including Pearl Harbor.

Part of the reason the US was slow to build-up in the face of impending war was because it was believed that attacking the US would be national suicide for Japan and since the Japanese knew it their better senses would prevail.

Also, isolationist sentiments were fed by Sen. Gerald Nye (R - ND) that we had been dragged int WW1 because of foreign propaganda as well as bankers and ammunition manufacturers, a.k.a. "death merchants."

I read his history of Naval Operations in WWII.  (It was only 15 volumes.  :whistling:)

Not really untrue by any means, but the Kaiser's Foreign Ministry screwed the pooch and finally resolved the quesiton when they got caught trying to stir up shit with Mexico and then didn't have the presence of mind to lie their way out of it and blame it all on British disinformation, as would happen today.

Why weren't there any questions about Syria, where thousands are dying at the hands of Assad? 

Why weren't there any questions abut the Muslim Brotherhood taking over the countries that have already had their "Arab Spring" ?

Why didn't someone follow up on the question about high gas prices, and bring back Obama's own words about "energy prices will necessarily skyrocket"?

Another thing about Obama's "press conference",  it was all BS!  I mean the clown was taking pre-approved questions.  Not once did he call on a reporter that had their hand up. No, he called on them by name, yet didn't even know where they sitting, so that shows that he was calling on them from a list.  If he had a list of names to call from, then you can be damn sure their questions were pre-approved, too.

He's coming to NC tomorrow to speak to the UAW union workers at the freightliner factory......so what important thing is happening tomorrow?

....and a union member on the radio said that some of the workers are actually being paid to...get this...stay away from work tomorrow !!!!!!!!

Obama used the word folks so many times during his remarks that it got annoying.
I remember a few months back there was a post at DU where a bunch of DUmmies were complaining of how they hate the word folks.  I can't remember the context--probably caused by some republican using the word.  But Obama used that word folks over and over.  I wonder how the DUmmies feel about folks now that the One has overused it so?  I'm going to see if I can find that post.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE that word. Especially from politicians who use it in every ****ing sentence, as if saying "folks" instead of "people" somehow makes you more "connected" to the pleebs you're trying to get to vote for you.
