BBQ fans, brace yourselves: "Pork butt" will soon be a thing of the past.

In an effort to boost sales just ahead of the U.S. grilling season, and make shopping at the meat counter a bit easier, the pork and beef industries are retooling more than 350 names of meat cuts to give them more sizzle and consumer appeal

The term "pork chops" disappears?

In favor of "Porterhouse chops?" and "NY Chops?"

What utter bullshit.

But wait. "Pork butt" to be renamed "Boston roast?"

I wonder if those guys checked with the good people of Boston before they made their decision.  :lmao:

I remember when pork chops used to be juicy. In the late fifties and early sixties, producers started to breed them to be "the other white meat" to compete with chicken in the health food fad. Pork became the other dry meat that got bigger the longer you chewed the tough it.

I marinate all my pork loin for at least a day before I cook it.  You can make anything taste good if you brine it long enough.

I think you hit on what this is really about. Wouldn't want to offend any scurvy muzzies that might hear you say pork would we?
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

Yep, pork shoulder is the "other" acceptable name. And most accurate, since that's where the cut comes from. Certainly not the area around the little twirly thing.  :-)

Pork Butt?   My wife said no.

Oldest daughter did FFA meat judging.  She had to study how to judge a "Butt Face" on a ham and practice explaining her decisions.  Lordy, two younger sisters and a 7 year old foster son?  I thought they'd die of giggling when she practiced her speeches.
