Whats the most exotic Animal you have eaten?
« on: January 14, 2008, 05:51:26 AM »
For me its rattlesnake and alligator. I would LOVE to eat an alligator steak (cross section of its tail), but have no idea where to find a restaurant that serves this.
Rabbit=OK.
Lamb-great.
Frogs legs- not impressed.

There's a place in Inverness, FL called Stumpknockers that serves gator about 20 different ways.  Bet you could find it there!

Not sure if it classified as an animal but I have eaten worms, goat brains, grizzly bear chitlins, kudu, cape buffalo, ostrich etc etc.  I have traveled all over the world and have eaten lots of weird things.  I sometimes fear what my be residing in my digestive tract.

I've had escargoat.  It was actually pretty good.  The next most exotic thing was buffalo, and that was good too.

Alpaca in Peru. Was actually quite tasty. Very lean, beef flavor. Husband had cuy (guinea pig) and swears it wasn't bad.

IMHO:
Ostrich -- very tough. Ditto buffalo.  Escargot -- tastes like garlic.  Rattlesnake, if marinated for a day is pretty tasty and no it doesn't taste like chicken.  Alligator -- very  gamey and oily.  Frog's legs -- a lot like gator.

Spotted owl -- kind of a cross between bald eagle and peregrine falcon.

Alligator, conch, buffalo.

Alligator is my favorite, though. :)

A restaurant I used to work for servered escargot.  They baked it in little iron escargot pans in butter and garlic.  Tasted like steak.  Frog legs?  Taste like chicken.  Lamb?  Taste like cow.  Ditto for buffalo.

Which one?  I like bison... its good stuff.

My stepfather has partial ownership of a couple of ranches (one in Franklin, another on in Montana).  Last I heard, he was working on a deal to supply meat to Ted Turner's restaurant.

Oh yeah... oysters are overrated gobs of snot.

My family LOVES that place.  There is a location in Norcross, Georgia, that we would often go to.

It may be partly owned by Ted, but the food is excellent (except for the half-pickled cucumbers  :mental: )
