Title: Mid-Term elections
Post by: rustybayonet on September 13, 2010, 07:55:50 AM

With luck, this will be the new offices of many current politicians.....

A thousand years in jail?!  Man, you are a hardass!   :-)

Speaking of midterm elections, it's time to go vote.  I'm sure we'll have lots to chat about tomorrow.  Hope everyone's favorites do well.  See you later!

Voted on my way into work.

Kimball for Governor.
Lamontagne for Senate.
Guinta for Congress.

Our primaries were 3 months ago....and the races are heating up.

Beating Dem. Rep. John Spratt is going to be difficult but hopefully this will be the time for his demise. Spratt has 40% of the votes sewed up, they all look like Obama (hint-hint). His opponent has to get 51% of the total votes from just 60% of the voters.

Carl Paladino crushed Rick Lazio in the NY Republican Governor's primary.  25 percentage points on the Republican line. :hyper: :cheersmate: :hi5:  The Conservative line had Lazio winning, but only 5% or so of the total votes were cast on that line.

That's a great pic, Rusty!   :lmao:

My guy Paladino won the primary!!!  I've been doing some work on his campaign (I'm a sign czar  :-))  Hoffman was my guy for Congress, and it's another squeaker...too close to call, 500 votes apart with 1800 absentee ballots.

So....onward and upward!

What are the tier 2 races that everyone is looking forward to? Of course we're all watching Pelosi, Reid, Fwank, et. al. But who are the lower level scum suckers that you can't wait to see the results for.

Personally, my most anticipated race is Alan Grayson (Jackass-FL8). I hope November 3rd sees him out on his ass. I can't find much online, but what I've found has that one as a tossup.

Next would have to be the local race for Governor. Perry v. White, aka Shitty v. Shittier. I think Perry will win again. Guess it could be worse.

Dude.  It's a total suckfest, right?  I am, however, looking forward to voting for Stefani Carter.  That Carol Kent is nasty.  Met both of them at our Neighborhood Association Meeting a few months back.

Hope the nightmare is now over with my 5th virus this year - this latest one may have been from an older one embedded on hard drive and only activated by opening certain sites?  Tech didn't know but couldn't find it the first time, he said there was a filter blocking searches for it.  Anyway hope it's fixed finally, I've had my share for a long time.

Okay now, to keep whatever Republican pick-ups in the House of Representatives in perspective, here's a dull statistical table that should be of interest.  I'm sure members here, unlike the primitives on Skins's island, are sophisticated enough in history to "relate" the dates with particular events and personalities.

This is for the House of Representatives only, and shows (R) gains and losses.

This is from the various articles in wikipedia.

2008 -21
2006 -30 (Republicans lost control of the House)
2004 +03
2002 +08
2000 -02

1998 -05
1996 -08
1994 +54 (Republicans won control of the House)
1992 +09
1990 -08

1988 -02
1986 -05
1984 +16
1982 -26
1980 +34

1978 +15
1976 -01
1974 -48
1972 +12
1970 -12

1968 +05
1966 +47
1964 -36
1962 +02
1960 +21

1958 -48
1956 -02
1954 -18 (Republicans lost control of the House)
1952 +22 (Republicans gained control of the House)
1950 +28

1948 -75 (Republicans lost control of the House)
1946 +55 (Republicans gained control of the House)
1944 -18
1942 +47
1940 -07

1938 +81
1936 -15 (the nadir; only 89 out of 435 congressmen Republican at this point)
1934 -14
1932 -101 (Republicans lost control of the House)
1930 -52

1928 +32
1926 -09
1924 +22
1922 -77
1920 +62

1918 +25 (Republicans gained control of the House)
1916 +19
1914 +62
1912 -28
1910 -57 (Republicans lost control of the House)

1908 -04
1906 -28
1904 +44
1902 +07
1900 +13

1898 -19
1896 -48
1894 +130 (Republicans gained control of the House)
1892 +38
1890 -93 (Republicans lost control of the House)

1888 +27 (Republicans gained control of the House)
1886 +11
1884 +24
1882 -34 (Republicans lost control of the House)
1880 +19 (Republicans gained control of the House)

1878 -04
1876 +33
1874 -96 (Republicans lost control of the House)
1872 +63
1870 -35

1868 -02
1866 +37
1864 +50
1862 -22
1860 -08

1858 +26 (Republicans gained control of the House)
1856 +44
1854 +46

The Republican party came into full being in 1854; remember that before 1915, the House of Representatives had fewer than 435 members, its current number.

Please notice the number of times the president was of one party, and the House of another.

1 day to go and no more counting.......tomorrow is the wake up.

Some will get their wish and some won't, but got out and-----------VOTE

To quote Sir Winston Churchill, in his famous speech to the House of Commons on Nov. 10, 1942:
" Now this is not the end.  It is not even the beginning of the end.  But it is, perhaps the end of the beginning."

Then the next day at the House of Commons, he said;
"I am certainly not one of those who need to be prodded.  In fact, if anything, I am a prod."
[ Hopefully I qualify]
