NYTimes: Weiner planning to check into a treatment center

Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 03:09 PM by pnwmom
Pelosi calls on him to resign.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/12/nyregion/pelosi-calls...

The House Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi, on Saturday called on Representative Anthony D. Weiner to resign, underscoring the growing concern among Democrats that his online exchanges with women had become a distraction for the party.

Representative Steve J. Israel, Democrat of New York, also called on Mr. Weiner to step down, saying that he clearly needed to seek treatment for “inappropriate behavior.”

“I pray for his family and hope that Anthony will take time to get the help he needs without the distractions and added pressures of Washington,” Mr. Israel said.

At the same time, two senior Democratic officials said on Saturday that Mr. Weiner was planning to check himself into a treatment center.

Weiner has informed congressional leaders he plans to seek treatment, according to Democratic insiders, and that was a factor in their decision to urge him to resign, first privately and later publicly.

A “coordinated effort was kicked off once Weiner decided to seek treatment,” a senior Democratic aide told POLITICO. “Leaders have been talking to him all week. His decision to seek treatment, on top of pressure of Sunday shows and members coming back on Monday, all equaled the ultimate decision for the leaders to go today.”

8. Yeah and I wonder...

if health insurance will cover a treatment center like that?

They will for a obama supporter. He got a waiver.

26. Sounds like a pathetic attempt to calm the angry mob and hope it all just blows over..

It also sounds like Pelosi and gang are not buying it.

Bela Pelosi never bought anything in her life.

30. For what? Stupidity is not a sickness.

Send him to an internet comprehension class. Day One:"Anthony, you do not have your own private internet. Everything you do online can be seen by millions of other people." Day Two:"Anthony, this is what happens when you put nekid pitchers of yerself online (hold up photo of Christopher Lee)." Day Three...

All of this from supporters.

I am having a hard time keeping up with Pelosi's position on Weiner.  I though she wanted him to stand firm, now she wants him to pull out?    :thatsright:

Because he wouldn't put in any time with her.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

You know, I always thought there was something most peculiar about the timing of this.

It's probably a coincidence, but it's most peculiar.

On one day, franksolich announces to the whole world there is in fact a, uh, picture of franksolich on the internet.

And then three days later this Weiner thing comes out.

No, no, no, sir.

I just think it's odd how whenever a disaster befalls franksolich, a few days later another sort of disaster, but similar in nature or theme, happens to a prominent Democrat.

I noticed this trend years and years ago.

It's all coincidence of course, but if I were a primitive, I'd be paranoid about it.

No, no, I'm still being misunderstood.

One day I was driving down the highway, and got into trouble (no ticket, though) for careless driving.

About three days after that, the then-governor of New Jersey (Jon Corzine-D) had that famous automobile accident.

Another one; remember the House banking scandal of the 1990s?

One day franksolich got an overdraft notice from his bank in Lincoln (check was paid, my credit was good).

Then three days later the scandal broke about Democrat congressmen having big overdrafts at the House bank.

That's scary. So, like, if franksolich were ever to use a pressure cooker on a gas stove, it could be a precursor to nuclear war.

Now you get it, sir.

As I said, I'm sure it's all just a coincidence, but I could see the primitives getting paranoid about it.
