Border crossings from Canada into upstate New York, New Hampshire and Vermont reached a record number last year, as migrants take advantage of understaffing and the lack of fencing at the northern border.

More than 12,200 migrants were apprehended crossing illegally from Canada last year, a 240% surge from the year before, when only 3,578 were arrested, US Customs and Border Protection data show.

Much of the illegal crossings — about 70% — occurred along the 295-mile Swanton Sector, which includes upstate New York, New Hampshire and Vermont, the data show.

In that sector, 3,100 people from 55 different countries have been apprehended since October alone — more than the total of the past four fiscal years combined, Robert Garcia, the chief patrol agent for the sector, posted on X Friday.

There is a lot of border crossing along America and Canada. Many of them are along the Swanton Sector.

I'm going to ask the question I've been asking for years about Mexico:

Unless we're getting an influx of polite people trying to get in from the cold or away from the tyranny of Big Tim Horton's, in order to come in from Canada they have to first get into Canada.  Why should we not demand Canada take better care of its borders?

A new report reveals that illegal immigration is rapidly increasing along the northern border of the United States while Customs and Border Protection directs most of its resources to the southern border crisis.

According to statistics shared by Customs and Border Protection, illegal immigration at the northern border increased by 240% last year, with over 12,200 immigrants crossing illegally into the United States through Canada.

The New York Post reported that roughly 70% of last year’s illegal immigrant crossings at the northern border occurred along the Swanton Sector, which is a 295-mile section of the northern border of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

The New York Post cited experts who have suggested that illegal immigrants who have the money to purchase a one-way plane ticket from Cancun or Mexico City to Toronto or Montreal have discovered that they are more likely to enter the United States without being caught if they cross the northern border of the U.S. instead of the southern border, where Customs and Border Protection concentrates most of its resources.

There is a lot of border crossing from up north from Canada. They are mostly in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
