If BigPig (BigSow? ) has lived in the San Diego area for over 3 decades, BigPig should know very well that there are a lot of former and serving military people there. My son lives in a nearby city and several vehicles on his street have Marines and/or NRA stickers on their rear windows or bumpers. I don't think people screaming at their TVs over politics or much else is common. Flocks of parrots flying overhead and screeching in mornings and evenings, yes, but humans screaming at their TV, no.

Apparently an exotic bird smuggler released a bunch of parrots several decades ago to avoid getting caught, and the birds flourished and multiplied.

I'd posit that history states that Russians (the precursor to the Soviets, of course) have ALWAYS been distrustful of the West. Going back to the days of Peter the Great and even before (though this is not without controversy). It's not a stretch for the Soviets to paint the West as the Bad Guy, especially when they're trying to build on their control of the Soviet people and the purges that occurred during the Stalin era. And before, under Lenin.
