I have an online friend....
...who is a bit of a public figure in my area. A musician, in fact. I've met him several times and have attended several of his performances.

Until about a year ago, he was quite the vocal presence online. He's a wordsmith (which comes in handy onstage. I don't think I've ever seen him misspell a word or use a non-sequitur online!) and his posts were concise, pointed, very literate and unrelentingly left-leaning, without being insulting, IMHO.

As you might expect, he caught the ire of the rightards and Trumpers, and they, naturally, pounded him with threats against him and his family, along with the usual, "Shut up and sing!" bullshit. It disturbed him a lot, understandably.

So he has "shut up" about politics. Now his posts are only about his music. At the same time, he started going to a local church and says he is so much happier now, no longer "screaming into the void." No more death threats.

It's good that he is happier now, if true, but I, among several others, miss his excellent dissections and takedowns of the rampant stupidity and hypocrisies in America. He's a great writer.

Being an atheist, I rather frown on his recent conversion to the church, but at least it's not a "hate-church." This church is all about love and acceptance, which I will not argue against.

But a really effective, coherent political voice has been silenced in favor of no politics at all. To me, this is a time when bright people need to raise their voices to fight the swelling tide of hatred in America, not tuck in your horns.

Alex Wagner has totally lost a viewer. WTF is she doing trying to act like the college

loan forgiveness is going to trash the democrats' chances in November? She was all up in arms because Biden (RIGHTFULLY) said MAGAts are trending semi fascists. There's nothing ****ing "soft" about it! They are mostly white "christian" nationalists, and they're shooting democrats all over the place!

...wanting to protect your family. At the same time, though, someone who is loved by the entire community can still suffer from the misguided adoration of a crazy fan, a la John Lennon, among others. He's no John Lennon, but he's a good performer.

But you reduce the risks where you can, I guess.
