It is fun but expensive and must travel out of cities to get good dark skies.

You can see interesting stuff with a good 7X50 and larger Binoculars (Mine is a 9X63) sometimes it is better than a Telescope because of its brigtness or large size of the image.

This fall and Winter with Binoculars you see Pleiades (M45) Beehive cluster (M44) Association cluster around and below Mirfak the bright star in Perseus, the Coathanger (Brocchis cluster) directions here:

Lock your binoculars onto Altair. A short distance above it you’ll find mag. +2.7 Tarazed (gamma Aquilae).

Altair, Tarazed and Vega are almost aligned, and it’s this imaginary line that you want to move along towards Vega.

As you go, you will see the almost identical stars of Alpha and Beta Sagittae, both mag. +4.4, in the left of your field of view.

The Coathanger will appear a little farther on. In all, you will have shifted your gaze approximately one-third of the distance from Altair to Vega.

===

The Double Cluster (NGC 869/884) between Cassiopeia and Perseus as a cloudy spot between the two constellations.

Here is a nice website called In the Sky

Enjoy.

Watts Up With That?

Where Is The “Climate Emergency”?
April 2021

Guest Post by Willis Eschenbach

EXCERPT:

I listed some of the following in my previous post, and a commenter said they were important enough to deserve a post on their own … I agree.

Despite my asking over and over in a host of forums, to date nobody has been able to tell me just what this supposed “CLIMATE EMERGENCY!!” actually is and where I might find evidence that it exists. Here are some facts for the folks that think that the climate is a real danger to humanity.

Deaths from climate-related phenomena are at an all-time low. If you think deaths from climate-related catastrophes are an emergency, please point in the graph below to the start of the “emergency”.

If we have learned anything about liberals, it's that there is always room in their asses for something else.
At the pet store:
Cashier 1: hey, what happened to all the mice, hamsters and gerbils?
Cashier 2: oh, someone from DU stopped by this morning
Cashier 1: wow, they can sure cram em in there

This was also posted on the FaceBook site.  Looks like Will had put on a few pounds:

Apparently, you - or David Stockman, anyway - don't have a friggin' clue what the Ukrainian NATION endured after they were conquered by Lenin, Stalin and the rest of Soviet Russia, or why they might object to putting their neck under that boot again.

:therock:

I take it then that you have no counterpoint to offer against the article maybe because your prejudice prevented you from doing it.

You really need to try learning history of the region because it wasn't Ukraine for centuries BEFORE the awful USSR came along here is a snippet from Wikipedia:

Quote
During the Middle Ages, the area was a key centre of East Slavic culture under the state of Kievan Rus', which emerged in the 9th century and was ultimately destroyed by the Mongol invasions of the 13th century. After the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia emerged, the area was contested, divided, and ruled by a variety of external powers for the next 600 years; including the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Austrian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Tsardom of Russia. The Cossack Hetmanate emerged in central Ukraine in the 17th century, but was partitioned between Russia and Poland, and ultimately absorbed by the Russian Empire. After the Russian Revolution, a Ukrainian national movement re-emerged, and formed the Ukrainian People's Republic in 1917. This short-lived state was forcibly reconstituted by the Bolsheviks into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, which became a founding member of the Soviet Union in 1922. In the 1930s, millions of Ukrainians were killed by the Holodomor, a Stalin-era man-made famine.

It makes no sense for America to be so heavily involved in promoting war in the region.

Somebody posted a link to DU's announcement about Pitt's death.  Here are some of the replies:

Wow. I have never been on DU, but what a fetid pool of ****.

Quote
Clicking that link was like the platonic ideal of "don't read the ****ing comments."

Quote
The horrible comments (which may or may not be Russian trolls) brought all of it back. I feel ill. Unclean. And thoroughly disgusted.  Thank you to all who welcomed me here. (Will was one of the first)  -Rev Cheesehead

Well, that reminded me of why I don't go there anymore. Excuse me, I need a shower.

Quote
I saw that yesterday. Sick ****s. No better than trumpers.

Quote
Same. Glad I am no longer there.

Used to get tombstoned every other week with socks after getting my original account banned for even criticizing Obama from the left.

Gosh. I've made like a thousand socks before quitting for good around 2014.

Gotta love how much they actually hate each other.  They are such miserable people.

I'm glad to be back. Of course, at my age, I'm glad to be anywhere..

As a dear friend once responded to me when I said "good to see ya'". His response was "good to be seen".

Welcome back! :cheersmate:

Good summary by Mary Ann.  Every other thread title has the word "Trump" or "TFG" in it.  They will not evict him from their heads.  They're also soooo certain that he'll finally go to jail tomorrow.  Then they fantasize about being on the firing squad.  So, just as loony as ever.   Welcome back!

Hence the reason I stopped perusing the DUmp after President Trump beat Cankles like a rented mule. They just won't stop chattering about "TFG", "Orange Cheetolini", etc.
