I heard that Joplin was doing quite well after the tornados. :???:

Hell, sounds like it's about to do even better yet!

You can rent a car for less than $200 a week.  Rent a car and drive.  Why hike?

I dunno, sounds like something I would try.  I've done a small bit of the Appalachian trail, and the whole thing is on my bucket list.  I did get to scratch off "Feel the Earth shake" last week.

Greyhound is pretty expensive.  A pair of tickets from Joplin to Colorado Springs is anywhere from $257-$320

They can always hobo it and jump a train.  I suppose if I was a hopeless grabass with nothing to lose, I would give it a shot.

That much? how about Amtrak? or EC's suggestion of renting a car I guess.

They're doing so well in Joplin that FEMA is withholding emergency funds from them so that the money can go to the east following Irene.

Amtrak isn't any better... they've always been expensive.

2 people and all toll they have less than $200 between them. Well, if they shop carefully, one of them can get a fair pair of hiking boots. The other one will have to go barefoot.

Watch for forest fires to break out all along their trail.

Nadin really needs to tell these people why this is such a bad idea, but yet she hasn't.
I'm not surprised.

You don't get much useful information when you google "hike from Missouri to Washington",
and nadin doesn't go with them freelance answers.

It IS a horrendously stupid idea.   The Dumbshits need to research the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies of 1856.  Winter in Wyoming is nothing to screw around with, as I'm sure these idiots are about to find out.

Quiet you. Two less DUmmies is a good thing.

They could pack themselves in boxes and ship themselves to Washington, Like when Garfield used to pack Nermal in a box and ship him to Abu Dhabi.. Well, that is until Nermal returned one day as Mohamed Al Shabizi, and beheaded Garfield for his crimes....    :-)

They were just there to collect FEMA money/aid.  Now it's on to the next disaster area to sign up.
