4. Interstate 70

This is a small, pathetic campfire, most likely started to generate pity, healing white light, and possibly a bit of cash for the potential hiker.  I'm not sure when the DUmmie is planning on commencing the hike, but if they plan on beginning even at the beginning of September, that sounds like a horrendously stupid idea.

The SW corner of Washington state is at minimum 1350 miles away from Joplin, so I have no idea how they came up with their 1,000 mile figure.  Assuming they can manage to hike 10 hours a day every day at a brisk pace, they are looking at 75-80 days of travel.  That would put them in Wyoming around the beginning of November.

Oh well, I guess somebody has to feed the bears up in that part of the country.

The sister thread to this one is here, titled "What is the best thing you could take on a 1,000+ mile hike?":

To the DUmmie who mentioned Lewis and Clark:  Lewis and Clark didn't have to avoid crossing private property.

Now, why isn't the primitive planning on hiking through the Sandhills of Nebraska?

That's more of a straight line from Joplin, Missouri to Washington, than through Kansas and Colorado.

This primitive is going to get self-owned if it thinks it can survive this trek. An experienced hiker wouldn't attempt this distance at this time of year.

Unless it's definition of hiking is to stand along a road with a cardboard sign and a thumb extended.

Can someone really be that stupid?  Silly question.

We don't need their dumb butts up here.  No doubt they would in some way need rescued or fed and housed.  Wyoming doesn't hand out much food and housing to anyone.  When we have to rescue stupid people, a couple have been quoted that dying would have been less embarrassing (well, duh).  I guess their feeling got hurt.

Finally, we don't have enough water to drink (or grow pot) and there's hardly any gas stations (just in case bobo happens on this thread).

Only a DUmmy would set out to cross the Northern Rocky Mountains on foot in autumn.

To the DUmmie who mentioned Lewis and Clark:  Lewis and Clark didn't have to avoid crossing private property.

They also damned near died in the during winter in the Bitteroot Mtns because they couldn't find a suitable pass.

You're assuming this DUmmy knows there are mountains between Missouri and Washington.
I dont think anyone on the thread has mentioned that.

It IS a horrendously stupid idea.  The Dumbshits need to research the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies of 1856.  Winter in Wyoming is nothing to screw around with, as I'm sure these idiots are about to find out.

I seriously doubt they even make a start.  After they put a few belongings into recyclable grocery bags and look westward down the street, they'll wear out and start looking for their next joint.

I predict a winter of wearing out their welcome sofa surfing.

Toboggan.
Watch cap, wool!
Extra socks.
A .22 carbine for bagging squirrels along the way.
I've probably forgotten something, but nothing important.  Don't listen to the naysayers Lady Freedom, just keep heading towards the setting sun and you'll be fine, I'm sure.

Well, now those directions are fine for late afternoons, but what about mornings? Or cloudy days?

It's gonna to take forever, just travelling on sunny afternoons. I guess that's why it took the pioneers months to reach California.

Is Donner Pass on their planned route?
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

Greyhound is pretty expensive.  A pair of tickets from Joplin to Colorado Springs is anywhere from $257-$320

They can always hobo it and jump a train.  I suppose if I was a hopeless grabass with nothing to lose, I would give it a shot.
