House and Senate Democrats are reportedly preparing to unveil legislation on Thursday to pack the Supreme Court with four new justices, a move that would change the balance of power on the nation’s highest court.
“The bill would add four seats to the high court, bringing the total to 13, from the current 9,” The Intercept reported. “The bill is led by House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, Subcommittee chair Hank Johnson, and freshman Rep. Mondaire Jones. In the Senate, the bill is being championed by Ed Markey of Massachusetts.”
The legislation comes after Democrat President Joe Biden announced last week that he had created a commission to study court packing—a political move that is so toxic that the majority of Americans oppose it—because, according to The New York Times, he was “under pressure from activists.”
The Daily Wire reported last week:
Court packing is so toxic that even socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) does not support it and has warned that if Democrats do it then “the next time the Republicans are in power they will do the same thing.”
Leftist Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, a registered Democrat, warned this week during a speech at Harvard that packing the court will diminish “confidence in the courts, and in the rule of law itself” which will lead to “diminishing the court’s power, including its power to act as a ‘check’ on the other branches.”
Even leftist Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg warned against packing the courts, saying that it will make the court appear more partisan and will trigger a constant expansion of the courts every time there is a power change in Washington, D.C.

Made a similar prediction at CU or here (maybe both) last fall that if the Democrat party wins the Presidency, they will absolutely overreach in their greed for power and control. Wasn't certain when it would happen, but it continues with this asinine idea to pack the court. Even diehard liberals despise this idea, the late Ruth "Buzzie" Ginsburg included.
If the Supreme Court does indeed get "packed", they will explain it with softer, market tested polled language. Ala infrastructure and equality/equity being repackaged under different words. Complete horse-hockey. And what will be the push back from the opposite party when the Presidency changes hands? Say President Trump or Cotton wins in 2024, and moves to pack the court to 18 justices. Can you imagine the pearl clutching of libs about "sanctity of law"?

And most of the citizenry is so clueless about how the government is supposed to work, they don't understand or care why this is an evil power grab.
What happens if this goes through and the Republicans pull a miracle out of their butts in the midterms and/or 2024? Will the dems be fighting to shrink the court again?

Not only that, but having Grandpa Gropey at the helm (knowing he's there temporarily - probably not more than a year) puts him in shouldering the blame when the whole damned thing blows up. He's in la-la land anyway and doesn't give a rip about his "legacy" so they automatically have a fall guy.
It'll be worse, if that's possible, when VP Ho is propelled in office.

Because it was a topical subject, last night decided to ask which U.S. President attempted to pack the Supreme Court by adding 6 new justices.
My normal crowd is probably 60% libs or Democrats, at least from our amusing casual conversations. Which is fine. They spend money at the bar, and are generally tolerable folks.
There were 10 teams participating. Half correctly said FDR. Trump, Reagan and Obama were the other wrong answers. One team of very devout libs picked Reagan. They claim such intellectual superiority but still don't know basic historical facts. Mentioned to them afterwards that after FDR did that, while he won re-election, the Democrat party lost 50+ seats in the House because of that massive power grab.
Didn't actually say that the same was going to happen to Sleepy Joe, but obviously hope it does.
