compact disc junk
« on: January 06, 2013, 04:56:36 PM »
I'm getting ready to load the printer-copier-scanner into this computer, and while going through the drawer looking for the owner's manual, I came across a plastic-wrapped compact disc with handwriting on the outside.

I have no idea what it is, or from where it came.

The disc itself is labeled thusly:

- - - - - - - - -

Win98, ME 2000, & XP
INSTALLATION CD

Rev. 4.0

Model 56HP92-PCT
P/N 35043

trademark Best Data Products, Inc.

- - - - - - - - -

The handwriting on the paper slipcover says:

C:\56hp92-pct
56HP92-PCT
C:\PCT

- - - - - - - - -

There's a little brochure entitled:

QuickStart Guide
56HP92

Internal PCI Modem

Model #56HP92-PCT rev2

- - - - - - - - -

I don't like junk hanging around here, and am wondering if this is something I can just toss away, or if I should keep it for future use.

I use wireless internet; as far as I know, there's no modem in this computer.

I would toss it out.  It looks like it's a driver disc for a dialup modem.

Okay.

I installed the Canon Pixma MP280 series printer, and it won't let the mouse operate without the printer-copier-scanner being unplugged first.

According to Windows, the thing needs updated as it's not compatible with Windows Vista; I'd last used it on Windows XP.

I go to the Canon site, and can't make heads or tails out of where one downloads updates.

Damn.

I rarely use the installation CD unless it has pertinent software on it. Normally, I just go to the website & download the newest drivers, programs, etc.
