Cursor jumps around while typing on Windows 7 laptop
« on: September 03, 2012, 06:24:14 PM »
I did a search to see if my question has been asked but.........

My Cursor jumps around while typing on a Windows 7 laptop (Sony VPCEH) and there is no option to disable my touch pad which looks to be the problem after a google search.

I am using a USB mouse.

Any ideas ?

It sounds like the 'tapping' feature that comes with W7.  I loathe it.

Check your touchpad settings on the Control Panel.  There should be a checkbox for it that can be turned on and off.

Somehow I missed your reply till now. (sorry)

The problem is I don't have a "touchpad" available in the Control Panel. Some places I searched told me it may be in the "mouse" settings but I don't have that option either.

I seem to be able to minimize the problem by typing s-l-o-w-l-y.  :-)

It should be under 'Mouse' on the Control Panel.  When I open mine, it shows me all the usual mouse settings and two more options for trackpoint (that little rubber nipple in the middle of the keyboard) and touchpad settings.

You may need to change your CP view to "small icons".

That's odd.  Is there a separate application controlling your touchpad?  We had some Dells like that.

If you want to turn it off entirely, you can simply disable it from the Device Manager.

The Dell 520s, 620s, & 630s all had a separate program for the touchpad. I'm certain that other Dells and maybe some other brands do the same. I loathe the touchpads because when I'm typing, that's where my thumb winds up .

Many laptops use the synaptics touchpad app to control the touchpad.

You can usually access it via the taskbar.

If your machine uses this app - open the touchpad properties via the taskbar , go to the last tab in that window (Device Properties) , select the device and click disable.

OK, I had to use the VAIO ON-line help file to find out how to use the "disable touch pad" key combination Fn + F1.   :banghead:

I could not find this info in the "OFF line help file".  :banghead: :banghead:

Thanks for suggestions.  :cheersmate:
