The results are in no way surprising :whatever::

Poll question: Separation of church and state:

Some church leaders implicitly or explicitly endorse specific politicians. IS it better for the separation of church and state to

Poll result (66 votes)

Investigate churches and revoke thier non-profit status for getting involved in politics  (63 votes, 95%)

Look the other way as the lesser evil rather than get government more closely involved in regulating religion  (3 votes, 5%)

"Implicitly or explicitly". Aye, there's the rub, eh? Are you "implicitly endorsing a candidate" if you promote the same moral principles he or she espouses, and does that mean churches have to desist teaching those principles just because a candidate or other politician follows those principles, lest they be accused of said "endorsing". Apparently, nothing would make the DUmmies happier.

4. I know of a certain church that threatens their members with eternal damnation if they
 don't vote pukelican
. When you see a McCain for president sitting on the church yard you pretty much know something stinks about that church. It has been there for about a month now.

Sure you do, pal. Sure you do. :whatever:

5. Wow! So no one here is bothered by the notion of federal agents sitting in church
taking notes. What about prosecutors determining whether preaching the social gospel or against an unjust war is too political?

Well, it would only apply to the evil fundies, ya know?

8. No, I'm not concerned.
What is the point of preaching? To convert, and to teach. Churches: teach about the faith. Convert if you must. Trust your paritioners to use their own judgment in applying your teaching outside of church.

Or...simply remove tax-exempt status from all churches and don't worry about their political work. Let them come out of the closet and be transparent about it.

But how do you teach without using examples and how Christ's teachings apply in our everyday world?

10. This goes without saying
IMO. We've let the religious right walk all over us for several decades now, and we need to stop looking the other way.

And the way to take care of that problem is to go into their churches and SILENCE THEM! Okay, gotcha. Who are the fascists here?

Another "jeebus" thread . Their mantra on the fiction of there being a separation of church and state is probably the biggest manipulation of the Constitution there is.

I assume Black churches campaigning for Democrats and organizing voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives are not included in this....?

Yes, let's ask if Obama's pastor should have his tax exempt status for directly endorsing a candidate, shall we?

No surprise that they ignore completely Sen.Obamas current "church" issue. :-)
