I converted a Obama fan
« on: September 28, 2008, 06:27:29 PM »
My aunt in law isn't politically active.  She watched the debates and thought Obama talks really nice and she liked what he said.  We started talking about the facts/rumors and she was surprised to find that maybe some things that she had heard weren't true.  We talked about his bracelet and how the family told him to stop wearing it, we talked about some mis-representations of Sarah Palin, we talked about Obama's abortion stances, his military stances, and all kinds of other things.  O.K. maybe I didn't convert her but at least she knows both sides to some of the stories she has heard from her moonbat daughter.

Then we talked about family and had a great time.  No one started screaming, no one left the family, no one changed parties.  I know really lame bouncy. :-)
All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

A friend of mine today told me her six year old came home from school on Friday stating "Mom, I really hope you are voting for Obama" -- she was absolutely furious he received instruction on that in his first grade class.

She is a MA independent who is supporting McCain -- I have a feeling that MA isn't as in the bag for Obama as he likes to believe.

I had a discussion recently with someone who is supporting Obama.  I then went issue by issue with this person about his views and he replied with pretty sensible views on most issues.  When I told him that according to his views on the issues, he was more in line with McCain, he looked stunned.  He then admitted that his parents were Democrats and he had just never voted otherwise.   :banghead:

  • If I agree with you, then we'll both be wrong.

Didn't start the story with "So", no epiphany, no cops, no bushes, weak attempt at a conversion ....

I find that is the case with most Democrats I know (not all, but most).   They were raised thinking that Democrats are for the middle class and Republicans are for the rich and they really know no other way.    My SIL was a die-hard leftist until her two sons went into the Marines (and one was assigned to Camp David).   They became hard core Republicans, and she started to soften.  Moreso when she learned how generous and kind GWB and Laura were to her son.

I find that Reagan Democrats are hard working, religious, tax-paying individuals whose party abandoned them ages ago.  The Democrats will never win another presidency until they embrace that constituency again.   I don't see it happening anytime soon.
