Title: Hot Sauces! Can you handle the heat?
Post by: ColonelCarrots on August 18, 2014, 11:10:41 AM
I like hot sauces, and I like em hot.

I recently got the Green Ghost. It's really good for heat, but probably not so much flavor. Green Ghost hit me hard though. Like I was that one protester lady that lit herself on fire.

For flavor and heat, I have one called the Reaper.

I can't really do them really hot anymore.  I can do Frank's Hot Sauce and no more than that.

I can do medium strength, but after that I miss not tasting the food.

Depends on if one is raised on spicy sauces or comes to like them in later years.

We were trained that in some parts of the world diet played a big part in disease.

We travel outside the USA to find places with educated hospitals and doctors that get in a tizzy when a tourist comes to them with , say, gall stones or kidney stones.

The diet of the people prevents this in all but 1% or less of the population and the trained Doctors who have never come across this problem in their country.  Perhaps in the country's they were trained in but after years back home they forget these things.

There is one sauce that the people from southern Asia make at home that will clear your sinuses in 3 seconds.

One spoon full of red pepper flakes

One half spoon full of sugar

One cup full of vinegar

Some add a pinch of salt, some do not.

This is made into batches and will keep in a cool place for months.

Everyone is protective of their own recipe for family hot sauce. Much difference between the Latino and the Asian sauces.     Anchovies [yuck] are added to some sauces, and some people will order a Pizza with anchovies.  But I think these are the people that eat sardines out of the can head first, or Tuna packed in water not oil.

I buy and use Cholula Hot Sauce as it is spicy but not so hot I cannot taste my food but get a kick from the bland tasting foods need a kick up.

I can handle just about anything, even Dave's Insanity Sauce, but like Mr Mann points out, you don't taste the food.
