Yup. In about 5 minutes the ISS is going to come sailing along right over my misshapen and rock like head. It's out of range of the .357, but I'll most likely have my Filipino man servant wheel me out to the observation deck anyway. If nothing else, I can shake my fist at it as it zooms overhead.

Habit I guess. I have a reputation as a crotchety and cranky bastard to uphold. But mainly because it's our space station and we've given tons of technology and dough away to inferior nations so they can slap stickers all over the ISS and stink up the joint.
If I remember correctly, we were supposed to have super sexy and heavily armed Moon bases by now and a manned outpost on Mars as part of that whole "containment" deal against the commies.
I'm just bitter about the fact that we have a giant double wide in orbit.

I, too, am disappointed that we have no bases or outposts on the moon and that we haven't made it to Mars with a manned expedition. I thought better of the USA than what we've demonstrated.

And a couple of derelict beaters to use for getting back and forth to that double-wide, when we don't have to thumb rides with someone else.

I just wish they'd ram the fuggin' thing into the space station so we can head to the Moon and rape and pillage that lifeless satellite for it's precious, precious Iridium. If anybody asks we'll just say we're doin' it for all those electric car batteries that need that uber expensive metal to work.

Yup. I watched the whole vid. NASA really is nothing more than a dead cold-war era relic, designed to slug out an industrial type war with an opponent - the Soviet Union - that no longer exists. It will, as it has always been, independents and entrepreneurs who get out there firstest with the mostest, and do the real exploring and the real value-added. It would be absolutely wonderful to see a couple of wildcatters set up permanently on the Moon, and then demand, at gunpoint, that the vessels of the holy, sanctimonious U.S. request official, diplomatic permission to enter Lunar orbit before doing so.

We just have to figure out a way to charge China and India. I dunno' maybe we could come up with some sort of orbiting toll booth.

It's the same idea as space ship 2 (Rutan Branson) but slightly more gay. Oh what the Hell. Good job Yurrup.
Oh, and as soon as you guys figure out how to keep those jet engines from disintegrating on reentry let me know.

Look, NASA is getting a bigger budget. Sure Constellation and the X-33 got canceled. Stuff get's canceled all the time. That's because NASA is a political entity. I'm surprised so many people think we're not doin' stuff with the space program. We are. The problem is that the focus is pretty diffused. Even in the space community, opinions vary as to where we should be headed, the Moon, Mars, low Earth orbit. Again, it's because NASA is big bureaucracy with it's hands tied by politicians.
But it's not all doom and gloom. Political Doom and Gloom. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/feb/01/moon-mission-obama-budget) I just think private enterprise shouldn't be over looked.
Especially since NASA seems to leaning more towards the aeronautics side of the equation and less towards the space side.

The Skylon would be powered by the company's Sabre dual-mode engines, housed in wingtip pods. In air-breathing mode, from the runway to Mach 5, the engines would burn onboard liquid hydrogen with atmospheric air. In rocket mode, from Mach 5 to orbit, the engines would switch to onboard liquid oxygen. This would allow the Skylon to carry a heavier payload to orbit than fully rocket-powered vehicles.
