I can buy a lot of books for $200.  Tough choice. :(

Which is all true if I leave it laying around, unattended.

We have to get one of those toilet seat locks though.  She has figured out how to open it, but has not thrown anything in there yet.  Thank goodness!
Our grandchild #5 stays with us a lot...she is 17 months old.  She has discarded a couple remotes in the trash, only one of which we recovered.  She nearly got my cell phone into the dog water last week.  She absolutely loves tossing things in the tub, we can't start the water until we have everything in the room and ready, so we can watch her constantly.  A new roll of toiletpaper makes quite a mess in a filling tub...  :argh: :-) :-) :-)  Toddlers are great, but they can do immense damage in seconds...

I know many who have taken the plunge. None have been disappointed in going to a reader.

God alone suffices.

Like I said before, I'm a purist when it comes to books and I wasn't sure if I was going to love the Kindle, but I really do love it.

BTW, just a curiosity question for the Kindle owners, since it has wifi and I've used it to do some web browsing, is there a way to clean out cookies? I haven't seen anything on it at all to do that.

oh, I haven't thought of that .... I don't do a lot of web browsing on it .... try checking out the Kindle discussion forum on the amazon site.  It's been a great place for tips and answers to questions like that

I found the answer to it, for anyone here who wants to know, to clean out the Browser and Cookies do this:

Click Menu
Scroll down to Experimental and click on it
Launch Browser
Click Menu again
Scroll down to Browser Settings and click on it
Clear your History and Clear Cookies

I still love my Kindle, the only thing I would do different though is this, I would've spent the $50 more to get the 3G. I didn't think I would really need it, but I take my Mom to a lot of Doctor appts. and I took my Kindle yesterday to 1 of her appts. I got bored with reading and I wasn't able to get a signal at all to go on the web, whereas the 3G has a built in signal that uses A T & T's towers.

Oh cool. I never thought about cookies on my Kindle. I love that thing. I kept with me all the time when I was Auckland and my gf was working. Sit in a bar, a coffee shop or in the park. Read, play a game, listen to my music, look up something on the web. Too bad Nook doesn't have 3G too. That would make it awesome.

I'm such a big fat hypocrite!  Last year I posted in this thread saying how I loved to feel a book in my hand.  Well, I still do, but I now love holding my Kindle in my hand as well!

First, I got my husband the base model off Amazon, set it up for him and thought,  "This ain't too bad."  Then, my daughter sent me the 3G one for Mother's Day (she got one refurbished from Woot for about $80 and it's fine) and I'm officially hooked.

I love being able to sample the books before buying.  Sometimes you get as many as 3 chapters on a sample which can give me a good idea if I'll like the read or not.  I can make folders, hold thousands of books in one place, surf the Web, have a separate Kindle email account, lots of features.  Plus, there are tons of free books; classics like Velveteen Rabbit and such.

This won't keep me from buying real books from time to time especially cook and craft books, but I have to tell you that I'm now a Kindle kook.

It doesn't take long to get hooked does it?

I got the Velveteen Rabbit on it because my ex gf liked for me to read to her before bed ( before you ask, she is 41, not 4. She just thought my voice was soothing.)

I couldn't finish it !!! Too sad!!!!!!!!! :bawl:

I ended up getting the Nook Color....love it... I got the little mermaid for my great niece and it had a read to me feature, so all the sound effects and different voices made it fun for her....it bookmarks where you left off, reccomends books for you and is in color. i can get this website on it as well...

So, of all the readers you recommend the nook ?

My only complaint about the Kindle Fire is the terrible keyboard and the relatively small screen (compared to the iPad).

We bought a pair of Nook Touch for our household.  My wife preferred the e-ink over the "computer screen" look of the Nook Color.  You'd be amazed how many books we already have in our little electronic libraries now.

I was going to be getting a IPad but it has not been in the budget I may have to change my mind about that with all the great comments here about the Kindle Fire

I did alot of research, as I mentioned earlier. I like the fact that i can go ta a Barnes and Noble store and get personal help, something I can't do with a Kindle.

I still prefer my Kindle black and gray screen over the color screens I've seen. And yes, these things hold a lot of books, I have almost 200 in my Kindle and was able to clean out most of my books by donating them or giving them away to people.

The lowest-priced iPad I can find is $500.  **** that.  I'll put out $199 for a Kindle and save the rest for books.

Good luck when all the B&N stores are closed.  We lost the one in Cool Springs last year.

My Kindle Fire has 5 Gb of storage space and I can download and play audio books from it.  I haven't tried it yet because I still have the stock radio in my car that has no USB/iPod/headphone jack.

Maybe I should buy a new car. :-)

I'm considering a Solara when the Camry goes belly up.

As for the rest of them, they are also going the way of Galyans.

I was surprised when the one here shut down.  That area is in one of the twenty five most affluent counties in the entire country.  The real estate is probably worth more than the store's entire inventory.

I would like to get the Fire to use for browsing the net, I assume they're going to come out with 1 that has built in wifi?
