Ohio’s secretary of state on Friday signaled that the Democratic National Convention may take place too late for President Joe Biden to appear on the general election ballot in the state, according to a letter obtained by NBC News.

“The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to convene on August 19, 2024, which occurs more than a week after the August 7 deadline to certify a presidential candidate to the office,” Secretary of State Frank LaRose wrote to Ohio Democratic Party Chairwoman Liz Walters.

ABC News first reported about the existence and content of this letter.

In the note, LaRose goes on to say that the oversight can be rectified in two ways: either by the Democratic Party moving up its nominating convention or by getting the Ohio state legislature to “create an exemption to this statutory requirement” by May 9 in accordance with state law.

A spokesperson for the Biden campaign told NBC News that the campaign is “monitoring the situation in Ohio and we’re confident that Joe Biden will be on the ballot in all 50 states.”

Is the "August 7 deadline" per the Ohio Constitution or per a statute? If a statute, when was it passed and signed into law? If a statute, how long has the Dem Party known of the "deadline"?

ETA: It looks like it is a statutory filing notice requirement, https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-3505.10 , in a law that became effective February 5, 2014. So this is a problem created by the national Dem Party being ignorant of or arrogantly ignoring a 10 year old Ohio State law.

The Biden Campaign May Have Made a MAJOR Blunder

While Democrats have been doing just about every nefarious thing possible to keep Donald Trump off the ballot in some states, Presidentish Joe Biden's campaign is having trouble following the established law to get their man on the ballot in Ohio.

According to a report in Sunday's Washington Post, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose's office has informed "Ohio Democratic Party Chair Liz Walters that the Democratic National Committee’s nominating convention is scheduled too late for Biden to make the Ohio ballot."

The law requires nominees to be certified at least 90 days before the general election, and Biden won't become the official nominee until the Democrats hold their convention in Chicago — less than 90 days before the general election. Biden will miss the deadline by 12 days.

It may be a distinction without a lot of difference, but this was the Dem Party's screw-up, not the LIEden Campaign's. As I pointed out above, the pertinent Ohio State law became effective 10 years ago, so LIEden and/or the Dem Party were not targeted.

There are laws which contain deadlines for qualifying for the ballot. The relevant law was last amended in 2014, and fixed the deadline at 90 days prior to the general election.

As currently scheduled, the Democratic Convention falls after the deadline for the outcome of the convention to qualify for the Ohio ballot.

How would we react if LaRose sent the same letter to the Ohio chair of the RNC? Wouldn't we be gleeful and insist the rules be followed?
