Title: good news, great news
Post by: franksolich on March 11, 2019, 11:53:10 AM
I've been very concerned about the Demos and primitives making the District of Columbia into the 51st state, thus giving them an additional guaranteed two Senate seats.

Statehood can be granted with congressional approval, nothing more needed.

But apparently the District of Columbia is a special case.

This according to google when I asked, "can the District of Columbia become a state with only congressional approval?"

.....D.C. Statehood: Not Without a Constitutional Amendment. ... As a constitutional matter, however, the Justice Department under both Democratic and Republican administrations has consistently agreed that statehood for the District requires a constitutional amendment; it cannot be done by mere majority vote in Congress.....

Yay yay yay yay yay.   :rimshot:

I've thought for years that the government district, with an official resident population of 537 + family members, should be carved out of the current district, and the remainder restored to Maryland as the south bank of the Potomac was returned to Virginia.
