But I give both BOR and Hannity credit for sticking it to 'em.

Lots of DU'er say the same thing albeit for different reasons. They wanna know why the dems didn't grab more cookies while they still had their hand in the jar.

But political reality was if they passed their version of a budget, even if just to freeze spending, the cost would have the dems even more than what they already lost.

We'll win this but it's gonna be one hilltop at a time. That Boehner stuck PPFA, NPR etc into the mix was a parachute drop behind enemy lines to cut their logistics and communications. If you had asked me 2 months ago what his strategy on those strongholds would have be I'd've said he would wait until 2012. Apparently, he feels the enemy is falling back across the entire front--especially when they lost their flank guard in Madison--and he's confident he can press the assault to link-up and trap a large number of enemy maneuver units. That Obama decided to counter with an attack on OUR stronghold (the military paycheck) is a bridge too far for them.

(is that too militarized an analogy?)

Holding military pay hostage for public funding for abortion is NOT the hill that I'd choose to die on politically.....even for a Dem president.......

Really dumb move.

Didn't the house pass the extension?  The bill, from what I understand, is sitting with Reid.  Obama said if it passes the Senate he would VETO it.  How can any of this be blamed on the GOP again?

I was being sarcastic.

Sorry, Chris...I thought you were a lot sharper than that sounded, and was trying to be tactful instead of just calling you a dumbass...

No biggie, I almost got banned at Free Republic shortly after I signed up for sarcasm, I forget that sometimes in print it's hard to tell.
Usually when a sentence or paragraph is followed by this smilie,  :whatever: I am indicating sarcasm.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I'd agree that with Lord Zero and his veto pen, it's pretty unrealistic to fall on your sword for a gimme like Planned Parenthood.

But when the budget battle for 2012 starts gearing up, how far are the Repubs going to back down from that one when it gets ugly?

Can we expect the same kind of bullshit, over and over and over again? Failing to pass a budget in October, and resorting to the same ol' same ol' CR's?

Quibble about billions when "the big fight" (as Bachmann puts it) is about trillions?

But I do not see the Dems on the ropes -- not by a long shot.

Ali's rope-a-dope ain't gonna help the Repubs when the MSM is determined to make the Tea Partiers look like they've hit below the belt.

Hmm... yeah. I guess we tea partiers are the 'bad guys'. Until we take the Senate and the White House too.

It means a lot of pissing and moaning from the left.

Basically most people won't notice a difference from any other day.
Some fed workers may get some free days off. The military will get paid because I don't believe the Dems are stupid enough to pull that stunt and try to blame the GOP. If it does shut down I bet the dems will scramble to fund the military paychecks, after they piss and moan about how evil the GOP is. You can also expect that every political ad from the Dems next year will try like hell to pin this on the GOP.

free days?  :lmao: I actually had my resume ready to go if it happened to fill in the gap. We were told very firmly that only those who worked during the shutdown would be paid once the resolution was passed. Even though historically they have back paid federal workers, it takes a separate act of Congress to do so and in these economic times, it was not likely.

As for military pay, that's why our side passed that temporary resolution before they finally agreed. In it was the entire appropriation for the rest of the fiscal year for DoD. it would have protected the military and their support agencies from any shutdown, but the dems defeated that. This should be highlighted since they were willing to let our military and DoD go unfunded...just an fyi. For those dogging fed workers, I wish you knew the length non-appropriated agencies and their workers were willing to go to make sure our men and women in uniform had the things they need during that time should it have come. I am proud to serve in the capacity I do even more after seeing that. Sure I have my own microcosm of gripes about some of the issues in my area, but I go in proudly even more so after seeing how the leadership in my agency behaved; there is no doubt of their commitment to the people and country they serve!

I'm feeling at bit better about this deal: http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/04/09/who-won-shutdown-showdown-it-wasnt-even-close

He went into more detail this morning on Neil Cavuto's show.   I am fine with this.

We haven't even reached the true battle ground yet.

Yup - the debt ceiling (somewhere up in the stratocirrus by now) and the 2012  debacle shitstorm budget.
