Jimmy Buffett Organizes Gulf Benefit, Blames Bush for Spill
FOX News
Published July 06, 2010 | Associated Press

Singer Jimmy Buffett is just another mad Gulf Coast native when it comes to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, but with an exception: He's got millions of fans and a way to help lift spirits over the seemingly endless crisis.

Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band will play Sunday on the beach in Gulf Shores, Ala., which has been sporadically hit by oil for weeks. The show already has been postponed once because of Hurricane Alex, and Buffet is hoping bad weather lurking in the Gulf doesn't create problems this weekend.

Known for laid-back tunes like "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise," Buffett told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday that it's perfectly normal for people to be mad when they see oil washing up on beaches and marshes.

=======================================================================

I am just as frustrated about the oil spill like the next guy. Blaming Bush is blame shifting and simplistic. I know BP and other petroleum companies donated money to Barack Obama.

Never was crazy about Jimmy Buffet.

I have been to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach and NW FL many times; it's not called the Redneck Riviera for nothing. My advise to him is STFU about politics. Otherwise, he may have to swim to get away from the angry crowd. The concert will be on the beach.

Notice how he's had a few of his fellow acts pull out due to "scheduling conflicts" with nobody to replace them.

Let's just say for the sake of argument that this is true.   The oil spill is the fault of GWB.    How does that have ANYTHING to do with how this administration reacted to the spill?

Shhhhhhh...stop that.  You're using facts, and that'll just confuse him.

Well to be fair to Obama if Bush hadn't of single handedly destroyed the economy then, Obama wouldn't have had to spend the past 6 months or so using his laser like focus on making more jobs.

So you see his being so busy and so focused on his golf game errr I mean jobs then he would have had time to swim down and plug the hole and, suck the oil out with a straw.

I just absolutely loathe professional musicians and actors who use their "fame" as a political podium. I kind of like how Alice Cooper put it:

Quote
"I call it treason against rock 'n' roll because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics."

"When I was a kid and my parents started talking about politics, I'd run to my room and put on the Rolling Stones as loud as I could. So when I see all these rock stars up there talking politics, it makes me sick.

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."

"Besides," he continued, "when I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that's a good reason right there to vote for Bush."

I've always liked Jimmy Buffet, in fact...I was in that crowd in KW that's pictured with the article! His music is "fun" music...not rocket science.

I am disappointed that he would make the comments that he has, and while I understand his anger with the oil expected to hit the lower Florida coast and Keys (which have incredibly fragile coral reefs)....it is obviously very misdirected. And though it's obvious that he doesn't know what he's talking about, it hasn't stopped him from voicing his opinion.

I really hope that people will start waking up to the oil situation, and realize that this is an incredibly tragic ACCIDENT....that no one really knows how to fix.

BP had already stepped up to the plate, prior to Obama's coercing $20billion out of them and said they would pay for everything.

Obama wanted to make himself look good by "getting them to pay" the $20B...but the reality of the situation is that it is HIS administration that has dropped the ball in implementing protective measures and cleanups that he could have helped facilitate. He could have rescinded the Jones Act to allow other countries to help us....and he didn't.

Obama could have done many things and didn't.....because it is ever so much easier to blame Bush.

And it's so convenient to listen to Obama's "sound bites" and believe them to be true, rather than take the time to actually learn the truth, for oneself.

I would venture a guess, that 80-90% of Jimmy's fanbase is over 40 and ... if the polls are correct....at least 50% of them are conservative. He's just pissed off at least 40-45% of his fan-base.

Not a good thing to do when a ticket to one of his concerts is about $50, if not more. In these economic times, when people are having to be much more budgetary conscious in there own households...he's done something really stupid....

Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

"My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I've finished two bags of M&M's and a chocolate cake. I feel better already." – Dave Barry

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

That's the problem with most people that are asleep at the wheel. They hear a sound bite and consider it to be true instead of researching things for themselves and forming their own opinions. That's one reason that I rely on numerous news sources vs just Fox News or the liberal MSNBC.

Yet we can still support the troops without bringing any politics into it.
