I think NH Sparky was making a "Blues Brothers" joke.

Sounds like your brother lived quite near my old house.

 :thatsright:

He lived on N Hiawatha. They were there for 10 years.

They just moved to Palatine and he's not happy. He didn't want to move, but his wife did. She's one of Alstate's top HR people and wanted the kids in school closer to where she worked. My niece just started first grade this year. (he's 15 yrs younger than me)

Since school has started, my niece was put on the wrong bus to day care, the first day of school, was the last one on the bus and the bus driver had no idea where to take her but back to school. Then they were in lock down when that prisoner was on the run.

My brother called me this afternoon and griped for an hour about this move!!! :o

Palatine is definitely closer to Allstate, but it is a ways out.

I was just a bit south of Hiawatha, just south of Foster.

They are a block and a half from Campbell's school and can get to her in less than 15 minutes, as opposed to the 45-60 it took before to get home, because of traffic. And my nephew goes to daycare where my SIL works. It's much closer for my brother too, so they will be spending a lot less driving time.

Did you ever go to the diner next to the Rabbinical School? Everytime I go to visit my brother, I make him take me there!! He keeps telling me there are other good restaurants.....which I know....but I dearly love their lox and bagel platter and potato pancakes!!!

A $2 Trillion Dollar budget deficit and the Bozo-in-Chief wants to go on another little plane ride.

The Chicago Olympic Organizing Committee should be paying 100% of the tab for this trip.
    :mental:

President Obama will travel to Copenhagen to make a pitch for Chicago’s Olympic bid, White House officials have confirmed to NBC News.

Obama will leave for Denmark Thursday night, hours after his wife Michelle departs for the vote. The president made the final decision Saturday night after returning from the G20 summit in Pittsburgh.

"The President decided over the weekend that he wanted be a part of the final push as we enter the home stretch," Jarrett told Politico.com

"He did not want to leave any stone unturned. He is very excited about joining the First Lady for both the final presentation and the question and answer session. The Olympic spirit is about giving it your very best down to finish line and not taking anything for granted. That's what his presence in Copenhagen will demonstrate."

Who told you Skokie was "Nazi"? Skokie is predominately Jewish, has been forever. There's a pocket of Catholics in there.

My brother lived on the edge of Lincolnwood, bordering on Forest Glen....very nice neighborhood, across the street from the elementary school. A 1700 SF detached row house that they just sold for $650K. They went to church in Skokie ( a very very old Epicopal Church).

There are a lot of nice areas of Chicago, as all city employees are required to live within the city limits. We've stayed in downtown Chicago and walked to restaurants at night.

There have always been "scary" areas of Chicago. I can remember going down to Rush Street when I was in college and my dad just about going into cardiac arrest over it... ::)...it was "funkytown" then - could buy anything you wanted on the street...now it's a very popular area of restaurants and boutiques.

Navy Pier, down at lakefront, is fun. Went there with my son and a buddy of his just after they graduated from Great Lakes.

If I had stayed in the area after I graduated from college, I would have ended up being a social worker in Cabrini Green....which is why I moved to Omaha. Didn't have a death wish.

Not familiar with your history, are ya?

The Nazis that wanted to march in Skokie, were not from Skokie. Nor did they march there, the court ruled that they were allowed to, but they marched in 3 other locations.....

Skokie is predominately a Jewish community.

Yep. I lived in Chicagoland for two years, and that was always my understanding. I almost dated a gal from Skokie, but she decided my yarmulke shouldn't have a visor on it.  :hyper:    :rotf:

When I first moved here, my neighbor across the street told me she was from Skokie....she's about as Irish Catholic as you can get being born outside of Ireland.

Having gone to college with a bunch of kids from Skokie...I was real blunt and asked her what she was doing in Skokie. She told me there was a "Catholic ghetto" in Skokie...said that Skokie really didn't want to acknowledge it though...and laughed. There were 7 kids in her family. They all went to Catholic schools in Skokie, at that time the elementary was coed and then they split for high school to boys/girls. The whole family either went to Notre Dame, St Mary's or Loyola, as have her children.
