Jane Fonda: QVC Caved to the Right Wing and Canceled Me (Updated with QVC response)
I was to have been on QVC today to introduce my book, “Prime Time,†about aging and the life cycle.
The network said they got a lot of calls yesterday criticizing me for my opposition to the Vietnam War and threatening to boycott the show if I was allowed to appear.
I am, to say the least, deeply disappointed that QVC caved to this kind of insane pressure by some well funded and organized political extremist groups. And that they did it without talking to me first.

Most people don’t buy into the far right lies. Many people have reached out to express how excited they were about my going onto QVC and hearing about my book.
Bottom line, this has gone on far too long, this spreading of lies about me! None of it is true. NONE OF IT! I love my country. I have never done anything to hurt my country or the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for us.

Until she apologizes and admits to giving aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war, I see no one forgiving her. Even then I doubt if it would change many peoples opinion of her.

Well, one need only think of conservative personalities and celebrities who got the axe on media and advertising money because the other side complained.
How about Anita Bryant? How about Phyllis Schlafly?
I'm sure the list is pretty damned long.
They do it worse than we do. And that's the blunt truth.

With that said, you folks congratulating QVC on their "stance" not to have Jane Fonda on to sell her book are wasting your kudos. If the reason QVC did not have her on was because of their disgust and such over her activities over forty years ago, common sense dictates they would not have scheduled her to appear in the first place.
Therefore, its more likely as she says, because QVC got complaints about her appearance, peppered with threats of canceling accounts and never buying from them again, someone in authority wet their pants/panties and canceled her appearance.
Shopping channels does not have "routine programming changes" when an A List celebrity's appearances that took months putting all of the pieces and nuances of their appearance together is involved. At least it does not happen as a matter of "routine".
It would have been better if Jane was allowed to appear and all of you Super Patriots could have simply ignored her.
But you zealots can't stand to let the "free marketplace" consumers decide what they want to buy and from whom can you?
All you have really achieved is an inconvenience to Jane and denied a healthy profit stream to QVC, a local employer. If for no other reason than her controversy, Jane Fonda's book is going to be a Best Seller. And there's not a damn thing you or anyone else can do about it in our so called "Free Market" society you Super Patriots love going on and on about when it suits your rants.
By the way honeybadger. Jane left Ted. I recall him in an interview (60 Minutes if memory serves) saying how much he wanted the marriage to continue. But Jane was done and wanted out. Only they really know why. As it should be. "
