I have to think that he must have brought an absolutely poisonous atmosphere to the locker room, and I have little doubt that at least contributed to the 9er's poor season. I think that most football gurus will agree that, much like flying, in the locker room, "your attitude determines your altitude." It's certainly not everything in the game, but it can certainly bring a team down pretty badly when there's a bad attitude in there dragging everyone else down, and doubly so when that's coming from the supposed leader of the team.
If that dumbass had bothered to focus his mind more on perfecting his game and less on protesting stupid BS, he probably could have finished out a halfway decent career. Not anymore.
