2010: Soldiers under stress

Army to report rise in National Guard, Reserve suicides
From Barbara Starr, CNN Pentagon Correspondent
January 19, 2011 -- Updated 1313 GMT (2113 HKT)

Washington (CNN) -- The U.S. Army on Wednesday will report that while the number of suicides in the active-duty force declined in 2010, the number of suicides in the Army Reserve and National Guard increased, a senior Army official said.

The increase in Reserve and National Guard suicides is among troops who are in the United States and not activated for duty. The senior Army official said more than half of those troops were never deployed to a war zone.

The official said one possible explanation for the increase in suicides is economic pressure and rising unemployment, but he emphasized that the Army simply does not have answers.

The official noted that for Guard and Reserve personnel who live as civilians back in their communities, the Army is not able to provide the same type of suicide awareness and prevention programs that are available to active-duty personnel.

The decline in active-duty suicides, even though slight, may be initial evidence that those awareness and prevention programs are helping, the official said.

1. if you read this article.. and the comments
there is a true inequality between active duty and reserves.
active duty think the reserves should thank the services for giving them access to health care and education.
reservists say the active duty should thank them for keeping their asses out of a war zone.
The DoD is honestly doing little to prevent this.

So there is a rise a non-active duty suicides. Has there been a rise in non-military suicides during the same period?  If suicides in the general population rise, then it would stand to reason that there might be a rise in non-active duty suicides also.

I blame Obama, the 110 and 111th congress, and the CDP for the ruin these monsters have wrought on our economic system.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Actually, aside from the IRR, the Reserve Component folks have to endure all the tedious anti-suicide training the Active Component people do.

I expect the way things are going, you'll be doing five more before 2011 runs its course.  You know how the Army is.

A transfer was part of promo so that means they have to re-certify I've had my mandatory briefings.

Just like I said for sexual assaults. How do the DoD numbers compare to colleges and universities?

It's all bull shit! from every site I can research, suicide is up in every demographic!

They're just tryin' to bring our attention to the military! It's not active duty either. They're shootin' blanks!

I looked for some kind of graph in order to post a visual, but couldn't find one. Suicide is up because the economy sucks shit!

What say you Obiewan?

What say you, worshipers of the messiah?

Has nothin' to do with the military and everything to do with Obiewan's economic policies!

ESAD, Dummies!
