NEW YORK (AP) -- Big corporations give him money. Presidential candidates seek his endorsement. He has influential friends in Congress and the governor's mansion.

The Rev. Al Sharpton has emerged over the past decade as perhaps the nation's most prominent civil rights leader, a status that was demonstrated again this week when he led protests against police brutality that briefly shut down six of Manhattan's major bridges and tunnels.

But he still carries baggage from his early days as a fire-breathing agitator: Government records obtained by The Associated Press indicate that Sharpton and his business entities owe nearly $1.5 million in overdue taxes and associated penalties.

Now the U.S. attorney is investigating his nonprofit group, an inquiry that an undeterred Sharpton brushes off as the kind of annoyance that civil rights figures have come to expect from the government.

SUpposedly, he has a lot of his wealth in a shadow corporation called "Reverend Als."  Yes, that's the proper spelling of that.  That's why that former DA--Steve Pagones, I think--has never been able to clooect a dime from that race-baiter (stemming from the Tawana Brawley rape hoax in the late 80's).

How anyone takes this pissant seriously is beyond me. 
I hope they nail his balls to the wall!  Oh glory the day this azzwipe ever has to do time in jail!

The Feds can try and convict 2 border agents and Martha S. in no time flat but it seems likes it takes forever to even try crooked black politicians like Rep. Jefferson and grease-ball Al.

I was so disgusted when he ran for President last time around and the media was at such pains to treat him like a real contender. What a joke.

The Rev. Al Sharpton is one big loud socialist with screwy hair, doesn't he know high taxes go hand-in-hand with the policies he proposes? He probably think he's exempt from them alltogether because of institutionalized racism.

The IRS should arrest him right before the DNC convenes this summer to keep the rioting down a little.

Rep. Jefferson (D) of LA goes on trial this summer. A conviction and arresting grease-ball Al would be a nice one two punch before their convention.

you notice Obama has not yet had either Jesse Jackson or Reverand Big Al standing behind him on a podium somewhere? I find that really odd... arent those two part of the party machine? Arent they Dems?

why isnt Obama asking them to support him? :-)
