Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), who blocked passage of federal Juneteenth legislation two years ago but relented in recent days, was roundly booed when he showed up at a holiday event in Milwaukee this weekend. A crowd gathered around a GOP booth at the celebration, shouting, “We don’t want you here.” Johnson was clearly annoyed by the response. “You come down here and try to interact with people and be nice to people. But this isn’t very nice, is it?” he said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, calling the hecklers “nasty.”

I'm sure that Senator Johnson had no problem with celebrating the fact that Republicans emancipated the slaves from their Democrat owners, but was there no other way to acknowledge the significance of the occasion than giving federal employees yet another paid day off work that the vast majority of the people of this country aren't going to get?

--- Quote ---“While it still seems strange that having taxpayers provide federal employees paid time off is now required to celebrate the end of slavery, it is clear that there is no appetite in Congress to further discuss the matter,” Johnson said regarding a proposal to make June 19, the day commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S., a federal holiday. “Therefore, I do not intend to object.”

2. I am pretty sure

They didn't appreciate a White Supremacist at their celebration.

Just a wild guess.

A wild guess.  Also a wrong and stupid guess.

4. "relented" - realized they had to do something big and symbolic that still allows voter purging

If they think that the best way to honor the occasion is by giving federal employees another paid day off work, he won't stand in their way.  He relented.

Proof that Senator Johnson is a white supremacist please.  Otherwise, stop spouting this garbage.

I'd just be happy if they can define what a white supremacist is...

Another federal holiday of which I will pay no attention. Christmas, Thanksgiving, and grill on July 4th, but that’s about it for me. My holiday enjoyment has one thing in common: food.
