My dad's computer is in his office. His office is a room on their carport so he has to go outside to get to his office. Mom asked me about a computer tablet for him on the days when he is too sick to go to his office. He checks his email, reads news and watches youtube some, but I think mostly what he does is play spider solitaire.
She's wanting something that's not too costly. I have an iPad, but I don't have a clue about all of the other tablets that are out there now. Since he is basically computer illiterate I assume something Windows based might be best, but since I've never had any experience with the other operating systems I'm not sure.
Any suggestions?

The other major tablet OS is Android. There are Windows tablets out there, but the ones I've seen are pricey. I've a gen 1 Samsung Galaxy 10.1. It's 3 or 4 years old and still doing fine. I think Samsung has 3 sizes of tablets.

I have a Windows tablet but it is clunky as hell, even when upgraded to Windows 10.
I prefer my Samsung 8" tablet. Android, has external storage and very smooth and responsive.

BTW, I strongly recommend getting a Bluetooth keyboard. The touch-screen "keyboard" on my Galaxy Tab is very good, but I prefer a "real" keyboard. I got one that is part of a protective case.

Some of the high end tablets cost more than a cheap laptop would.

Thanks for the responses.
I guess I should have mentioned that when I talked to her she mentioned one she had seen on the Home Shopping Network. I don't have a lot of trust in HSN, but I don't know enough about tablets to say one way or the other.
Below is the one mom asked about.
