The ascendance of the Conservative Party nominee in a New York special election suggests that some centrist candidates may be at risk to conservative challengers, strategists and members of Congress said this weekend.

Businessman Doug Hoffman, running on the Conservative Party line, has seen his support surge in recent weeks. On Saturday, Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, the Republican nominee in the district, said she is suspending her campaign, and national party leaders rushed to back Hoffman.

Strategists said the new developments are a shot in the arm for the conservative wing of the GOP, which may be emboldened to launch primary challenges to anointed favorites and even members of Congress who do not conform sufficiently to the Republican platform.

"Conservatives will be energized to take back the Republican Party and moderates will be looking over their shoulders for the next year," said Brian Darling, director of Senate relations at the Heritage Foundation. "Moderate incumbents worried about the next election may have to tack to the right to avoid a primary battle."

I'm tired of them calling some of these clowns "moderates", call a spade a spade, they're RINOS.  They should be worried and I hope people see through their political posturing of leaning to the right when election time comes around. Dump the RINOS, and get some conservatives running. 0Bama/Pelosi/Reid have given the conservative movement a shot in the arm.

If Hoffman wins, it will help to once again prove a basic concept.

When real conservatives run, they win.

The conservatives in this country are tired of lib-lites with an R behind their name.

The Republican party has proven time and again that they have no loyalty or even concern for the conservative base that got them in office.  Yet they expect continued loyalty in return?

Sorry...  But it doesn't work that way.

I wonder what Mustang feels about that?  He has been absent of late.

Don`t over read this.
It proves that the RNC needs to be a lot better at recognizing the voter demographics of individual districts rather then taking a state wide assesment.
There are places in NY where you will not get elected if you are any where to the right of Stalin.

What it does prove though is that a "moderate" shift in the Republican party is a myth and that needs to be the basis for candidate selection.

Good.

The GOP is never going to have anyone's respect if it keeps trying to compete with the Democrats for Democrat votes.  It pisses off all the Conservatives and even the Democrats are smart enough to vote for real Democrats instead of fake Democrats (Well, mostly).
