GOP officials: We won't abandon Dede
« on: October 25, 2009, 04:21:42 PM »
Quote
The National Republican Congressional Committee remains committed to embattled GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava in the upstate New York House special election, even as many of the party's top names throw their support to Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman.

Two party officials tell POLITICO that the NRCC will continue to air TV ads propping up Scozzafava in the days leading up to the Nov. 3 contest and plans to keep up a near relentless barrage of press releases slamming Hoffman.

Scozzafava, a state assemblywoman who supports gay marriage, abortion rights and has a close relationship with leading labor officials in her region, has been the target of sustained criticism from conservatives who claim she is too liberal for them to support her candidacy.

Hoffman, an accounting executive, is attracting an ever-growing group of conservative backers, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) have also endorsed the third-party candidate.

Public and private polls have shown Hoffman gaining on Scozzafava but both trail the Democratic nominee, attorney Bill Owens.
  Politico

No wonder the GOP is losing ground with conservatives, they are actively attacking a third party conservative instead of the DemonRat front runner. Why?  Because they don't want heir candidate to come in third. They are putting party above principle.

And as long as they keep calling me and sending me dreck, I'm going to tell them where they can shove it.

Best reading on the topic at hand I've read so far:

Two stories are unfolding out in the 23rd Congressional District of New York. In the foreground, we have the three-way contest between hapless Republican Dede Scozzafava, upstart Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, and some generic Democrat whose name no one can remember. This race is a microcosm of our strange politics, which have become like a speeding car with jammed door locks, cut brake lines, a dead steering wheel, and air vents that pump nitrous oxide. Everyone is dimly aware the country is heading for the edge of a cliff, but no one can muster the energy to search for alternatives.
Worth checking out.
"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

How in the hell can the GOP be this tone deaf to what it's base is telling them?

Especially after this summer with the Tea parties and the overt power grabs made by this Administration?

It certainly is a puzzler but, I think do think thundley4 made pretty good point as succinctly as I have seen:

BTW Sparky, Mr Newt will be going on my do not call list too.  Guess I wasn't the only one returning the prepaid RNC mailer with a note instead of coin of the realm. :whatever:

Behold the Power of Palin.

Big day for Hoffman after Palin endorsement: $116K
POSTED AT 12:05 PM ON OCTOBER 23, 2009 BY ED MORRISSEY
SHARE ON FACEBOOK |    PRINTER-FRIENDLY

Just how effective has Sarah Palin’s intervention in the NY23 special election been?  Douglas Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate that got Palin’s endorsement, raised $116,000 in a single day, according to a source within the campaign.  The source told me to refer back to Chris Cillizza’s coverage of the race at the Washington Post blog The Fix, which noted that Hoffman had raised $210,000 … over the course of a week.

Stacy McCain confirmed this with another source in the campaign.  He has a few updates as well on Democratic fundraising in the contest.

If nothing else, this confirms the power that Palin has with the conservative base.  She can raise money hand over fist, even with some considerable negatives with other constituencies.  If Hoffman winds up winning this election, Palin will become a very popular woman in the 2010 campaign, especially in Blue Dog Democrat districts where conservatives have grown appalled by the direction of a Democratic Congress.  Even if he doesn’t, this has been an impressive demonstration of influence and power.

I wonder if Dede, (sounds like a name for a lap dog), got any boost from Newt's endorsement.

I lost respect for him when he was slamming Hoffman on TV. Looks like Newt is just another idiotic Repub.politician that wants conservatives to toe the party line. That crap is not going to work this time around.

I won't sit it out.  I'll just vote for any 3rd party candidate that makes the state ballot.

Ditto.  Principles matter, and the party needs to know that or go away.

They call me three times a week asking for $$.

I take the time to tell them exactly why they aren't getting any.
