Woman caught driving while nursing baby

A mother in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has been issued several fines after a police officer was stunned to discover her driving while nursing her baby, authorities reported late on Monday.

“Despite his almost thirty years of experience on patrol duty, the officer was not a little surprised,” said a statement from the Mettmann district some 20 kilometres northeast of Düsseldorf.

While patrolling streets in the town of Velbert on Monday, the officer spotted the 47-year-old woman at the wheel – with her 18-month-old at her breast, the statement said....

Glad the police could nip this behaviour in the bud.

We're gonna have to milk this one for all it's worth.

I'm wondering if the cop had to pump her for information, or if all the evidence leaked out.

I think that in terms of information the cop's cup runneth over.

I bet they just tried to nip it in the bud.  I mean, do ya think they have training for that sort of thing?  Highly doubtful.

On a more serious note....still nursing an 18mo old?

If she was close to home as the article states....an 18mo old can wait a few miles.

Mommy was.....?

Training would consist of how to successfully unbuckle a flap - that's pretty serious stuff, especially for the recipient. Failure to unbuckle the flap results in a very dry condition.

I'm wondering if there's a hands-free option. That sounds doubtful to me too, but technology moves at the speed of light anymore.

Finally, the cops are just gonna have to put some teeth into the law. Not enough to make the woman bleed, though. It's already bad enough as it is.

If she even had a minor fender bender, said 18 mo old could've gone through the windshield. So stupid on EVERY level. And I am not saying when you should quit nursing, but for me, if the baby can pull my boob out and put it in his/her mouth, it might be time to get on the sippy cup.

I'm not saying when a mother should stop nursing either...but I'm like you...if the kid can ask for it, it's beyond sippy cup time!!

I understand your consern for the baby, toddler or what ever.

However what gets my goat is people that drive with a dog in their lap.  Seems to be some cult thing for senior citizens to, in these parts to have a small pooch in their lap with head hanging out the window.

Talk about hypocricity, some of my best memorys as a kid was when my grandpa let me sit in his lap at the age of perhaps 5 and steer the car down dirt roads at the 5 MPH.

People around here drive with their dogs in their laps too! Crazy.  :mental:

Then there are the ones with the huge dog riding in the back of the pickup truck. Just where do they think that dog's going to land when they either slam on their brakes really hard or have a wreck?

This idiot I saw once on the road had his dog leashed in the back of the truck. When the truck stopped at a red light, the dog was flung out and hung itself. Poor thing was just hanging and flailing around on the side of the truck. It apparently happened a lot because the guy got out of the truck, threw him back in, and continued on. I almost had to hurt the dude. He drove off before I could intervene. People are idiots. Well some are.

They do make doggie seatbelts. I've never had one for my dogs. I usually put them in their kennel if we are going to be driving with them, although I am not sure how much safer that really is. It keeps them from climbing all through the car though.

My dad used to let us ride in the back of his truck around the neighborhood. I don't even think that was illegal then, but still not a very good idea. We loved it, but I cringe now (and so does my dad) thinking about how dangerous that really is.

I have a seatbelt harness for my dog.  People laugh.  He is 80 lbs of dog, if I get in an accident, or brake really hard, he is a 80 lb projectile in the car.  I started it with him, when he was a pup, and crawled under me to get under my feet, inbetween the brake pedal and the floorboard.

It is not a bad idea at all. I have a 17 lb dog and a 120 lb dog. I should really consider getting one for my dogs.

Dude has worn it since he was a pup.  When I open my car door, he knows exactly where to sit, so I can latch him in.  Now that I have a car, that has 4 doors, I can roll down the window for him, and, I don't have to worry with him trying to jump out.  I wouldn't have it any other way.

The big problem as I see it is any dog with their head out the window or in the back of a truck is the fact that , they have no face protection from small bits of sand or gravel that may fly into their eyes and blind them.

Do we allow our children to hang their unprotected head out the windows of something traveling 65 MPH behind a truck filled with sand---or even on an empty road ???

.OK I allowed my kids to ride in the back of a truck with a rope to hang on to to get to school from the mountains of Tenn into Hendersonvill, no choice there and an adventure for the kids.

Funny thing was I would never put my dog in the back of a truck without a three point mooring.

My parents bought a hassock that I sat on the back set of their car as a child, no seat belt for a few years.
