BLOOMINGTON -- The scar on Randy Howard's neck is a reminder of the summer night when Cynthia Howard cut his throat during a sexual encounter that went terribly wrong.

On Tuesday, his former sister-in-law received six years in prison for aggravated domestic battery. She also was ordered to pay $18,000 for the victim's medical expenses.

The scar caused life-threatening injuries and left him with emotional wounds. "Every woman I'm ever going to meet is going to ask me about that scar and I'm going to have to tell them the story," he said.

On the witness stand Tuesday, Cynthia Howard, 47, said a blackout caused by heavy drinking kept her from fully remembering what caused her to use a box cutter against Howard. She told police she was being sexually assaulted by Howard, an accusation he has denied.

...Because, of course, just lying about it would be completely out of the question for an upstanding guy who was injured while pumping his alcohol-fogged sister-in-law.
